Description
Some explanations:

- Duclair for Yegor + 5th:
Florida's PK has been pretty ass this season so I think this hockey trade makes sense for both teams. Yegor is a good PK guy who has put up 20+ goals, and his QO is only 2.2M. Duclair addresses a top 9 wing vacancy and gives the Devs even more speed and depth scoring. Duclair also only has a year left, which would allow the Devs to either resign him next summer, or (imo the better move) use his cap hit to pay for the Mercer extension next summer when he's a RFA.

- Blackwood for 4th:
There's a lot of retool speculation on the Jets, but I think they'll wait until the deadline to gauge if they should sell their pending UFAs (Scheifele, Helley, etc). Blackwood has had injury issues, but he'd be an upgrade at backup and still has the upside to become the starter if the rebuild/tool happens and Helley leaves.

- 2023 2nd for 2x 2023 3rds:
The Devs 2nd is late, but I could see them trading down in a deep draft to get more prospect capital after buying this year. Maybe they don't get 2 thirds back, but Arizona is literally not gonna have enough contracts to sign all the players they draft with how many picks they have over the next few years.

- Bratt 4 x 7.85:
Bratt had difficult negotiations last summer, taking a 1 year deal, so I think it plausible that he takes a shorter term deal to hold out for the cap going up and being a UFA at 28 yrs old.

- Luke Schenn 2 x 2:
Given the Devs D prospect pipeline, I think it'd be reasonable not to resign Graves/Severson since they'd likely only take >=5 yr deals. Luke Schenn has already been a successful D pair with a Hughes bro and he's been solid this year so I think this would make some sense while Nemec develops.

- Haula 2 x 3.75:
I think the Devs resign Haula just because he's been such a versatile player for them and he's played really well in a lot of minutes during the playoffs. Guarantees the Devs will make the playoffs for the next two seasons ;)

Way too much for Haula, probably not enough for Meier. I'd rather play Walsh than Schenn, and Tatar than Duclair

Blackwood ain't even getting qualified so why pay when we can sign him in fa. Also jets don't need a goalie that can't stay healthy lol

Edit: I'd give Blaisdell 1 for 1 for Blackwood but if he doesn't take below qo then he can leave not giving up even a 7th lol

Would one year of Duclair cost more than Sharangovich? In a vacuum, it shouldn't, but Florida may want cap relief.

Nah, Haula has been really solid, saw some advanced stat projections that had him at like ~4.1M and he's been playing 19min/game this playoffs.

Maybe it's not enough for Meier, but I believe in Fitz to get a palatable deal done with an 8th year.

Schenn > Walsh just because we already have competent offensive D men, and the D core would have 3 1st/2nd year players with Walsh which would not be ideal for a playoff team.

Duclair > Tatar also imo because even though Tatar has played well, he'd require a multi-year contract with around the same cap hit. This would force the Devs to likely give Dawson a bridge deal instead of signing him long term deal which is more important.

I'm pretty confident Tatar would take a discount to win here. At minimum, if the choice is between Haula and Tatar, I would take Tatar every time.

I honestly think these are all fair, but I'm having a tough time even wanting Bratt moving forward. Guy can't play playoff hockey.

I hope so - he's been super underrated this season. For me though if it's between Haula and Tatar, I think Haula is a better fit because he's 2nd PP, PK, and also a 50+% faceoff guy.

Faceoffs are statistically negligible. We only need one faceoff guy and that's McLeod. If we need a PK/PP2 guy, we can just keep Yegor. Tatar is better than Haula by every important metric, and the Tatar Hischier Mercer line was one of the most statistically dominant in the league.

Haula has played like 5 more minutes per game over Tatar during the playoffs. Plus, we shouldn't pull a rangers and we should actually give Holtz an opportunity to play on either Jack or Nico's wing in the top 6. Again, I would love to bring Tatar back as well, especially if it's a 1 year deal (no need for the Duclair trade), but I think the Devils are better off going for more versatility. TLDR: Tatar is a better top six player, but Haula is a better third liner, and the Devils already have a very strong top 6 especially assuming that Holtz can take that next step.

Edit: Also respectfully disagree on the Faceoffs being negligible take, especially on special teams (which Haula does both).

On faceoffs, it's not a thing you can disagree with, it's objective fact. JFresh attempted to add faceoffs to his model and he found that there was no correlation at all between winning faceoffs and scoring goals, meaning that the only thing you need a faceoff winner for is clutch situations.
