Taking advantage of cap crunches

Created by: brgh4life

Initial Creation Date: May 6, 2023
Published: May 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've already seen a ton of people talk about Boston trading Ullmark and he'd be a great fit for the Pens. Not sure if Vancouver would like to deal Garland still, but I really like his 5v5 play. Could slide Rakell back to the LW to take the spot vacated by Zucker.
Puustinen is a gifted playmaker who should be a full time NHL'er next season.
Sundqvist and Erod bring some versatility to the third line.

No thanks. Even if Pitts is not on his NTC or he waives, that won’t cut it.

I figured since Martin was pretty unspectacular they might bring in someone Allvin was familar with for a season. What about Garland though? Is there still talk of moving him since you all have a ton of wingers signed?

It's not like Boston is really in the drivers seat right now. Unless someone does them a big favor the return for some of the contracts they need to move are going to be disappointing.

They buyout Reilly, trade Forbort for late pick they have all the space they need. They could use more of course, but they don’t NEED it to fill the roster.

So unless they are planning another move they won’t be backed into a poor trade.

That gives Boston roughly 10.5 with 7 forwards, 5 D, and 1 goalie signed. That leaves an average of 1.05 mill for each open roster spot. Swayman must be taking a serious deal for that to happen.

Didn’t say it would be a good roster, just said it would be filled. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bruins aren't in a good place with the cap, but they aren't in a "Vegas with MAF" level desperate situation either. Buying out Reilly and trading Grzelyck gives them near enough to fill the roster, and that's if the cap ends up going up by only 1 mil. If it goes up by any more then that and those 2 moves alone could very slightly be enough. Point is they aren't gonna punt on valuable roster players strictly for cap reasons, it's not a thing they have to do, or can really afford to do tbh considering how many assets they gave up at the deadline.

That gives them around 11.25 mill with 10 open roster spots. They could fill the roster with that, but it's highly unlikely given what Swayman could easily get in arbitration.
