Colorado is in the same conference as Vancouver. Colorado has an even tougher cap situation than the Rangers. Miller might be a bit better, but Byram makes more sense. Unless the Rangers have multiple teams offer sheeting several players, New York should have few issues working trades to make the cap work.

The St Louis trade is an overpay by Vancouver. Buchnevich only has 2 years left on his deal, and realistically, even with Bedard, the Canucks are not cup contenders until the D gets sorted out.

Toronto is not likely trading Marner, and if they are, this package is not close.

Byram's injury history is the biggest concern. If we are going to make an aggressive move like that it would be worth it to target the guy without an injury history I think.

Although I agree Marner is worth more (more quality less quantity, eg top pick and prospect), if Toronto loses Rd2 and their 'core 4' drastically underproduce, Nylander and Marner will be 1 and 2, respectively, shopped around.

Annnnddd I'll add that Matthews contract negotiations become realllly difficult. Personally, I would trade him, but hey...

I think the blues would rather have Buch that this package. He's gonna be part of the core we are building around. We already have a lot of forward prospects so don't really need more of them. The 2025 first isn't that appealing.

How is Buchnevich with 2 seasons at 5.4m worth less than pending UFA Horvat?

Don’t think the Blues would even be willing to trade Buchnevich anyways but this addresses no needs at all for STL

Maybe the Blues can get more elsewhere. The deal makes zero sense for Vancouver unless Buchnevich stays. He has 2 years left. The Blues are probably not a playoff team for couple years or longer. At age 30, Pavel has to decide money or winning.

In tbe trade, the Blues get Beauvillier who is a downgrade, but younger. Raty, who I dunno, some are high on him. A 2025 pick is probably in tbe low 20s, but it is Vancouver, so they can also find themselves in tbe lottery.

Buchnevich is good, on a great deal. Blues could really come out ahead and have more pieces that align with a rebuild.

Nooo. He's not available. And that package offered is of no interest. Obviously.

And this idea that the Blues are set for years of misery is quite hilarious, especially coming fans of certain teams. When was the last time the Blues sucked for an extended period of time? They've missed the playoffs three times in a row exactly once in franchise history, and two of those seasons they were 1-2 games under .500. I would not expect them to be poor again next season.

You are right, the Blues do manage to stay just above mediocrity, except for 1 season that expectations were exceeded. The team, as currently constructed has several good pieces, some of which under performed. The D corps isn't getting any better, though I think Paryako rebounds and also doesn't deserve the criticism I've seen. If the Blues plan on getting good, they need lottery luck this year or they need a couple years of better draft picks. The prospect pool is decent, but still several players are a few years away from contributing. Goaltending is a question mark.

This is not a criticism of the Blues, actually more of a compliment. Armstrong is a good GM (except Krug signing), and I think he is smart enough to know to get younger assets right now that can contribute in 2-3 years and help the Kyrou and Thomas new core. Getting a bunch of mid teen or early 20 picks perpetuates mediocrity unless you get real lucky with later round gems. Just ask Minnesota, Nashville, San Jose, Detroit.

Apparently, the 6th best overall franchise record is "just above mediocrity" now. The Blues are usually pretty damn good. That's not my opinion, that's empirical fact. It's not an accident when a team is almost always in the top 10 or higher despite almost never having high draft picks. There was a time in the 70s when they were just consistently ****, but the franchise put together a style they want to achieve and a fiscal ethos to stick to and it works, so they don't stray far from it much. And on top of the style and the dollars stuff, they also formed a franchise attitude that says we always want to compete. Again, it usually works. Don't let their legendary rough playoff luck fool you. It's a solid and steady organization, and even if they weren't it would be hard to imagine their roster executing as poorly as they did last season another time or more.
