Vancouver wins the lottery

Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vancouver has a good offence already, not a lot really needs to be done there, didn’t put a ton of thought into the forward lines. Run Demko back, goalies are voodoo. OEL trade explained, but his cap hit needs to be gone to have any semblance of roster flexibility. Myers and Pearson have contracts that are too big as well, but both are UFAs. Run back mostly the same core + Bedard, give the young guys a shot, and see what you have this year, then with the cap going up and some contracts off the table, make improvements next year (the defence).

    4. 2024 6th round pick (VAN)
    Additional Details:
OEL sucks and he’s expensive as hell, he needs to go somehow. NMC is tough though. Nashville could be in a position to rebuild, and Tennessee has no state income tax, figure a guy might waive his NMC for that, maybe. Vancouver would have to retain salary. At the same time, there is still potential for OEL to be good with a change of scenery and flippable, with more retention.

Those picks aren't enough to convince anyone to take OEL for one season - nevermind until 2027.

I don't see NSH taking this trade. Honestly, VAN is stuck with OEL for at least another few years; the best we can hope for is to bury him in the minors and get relatively low relief. That being said, I think Myers could be moved after his bonus is paid. He'd be owed $1mil actual cash despite the cap hit and teams (ANA?) could use a depth RD with teeth or to hit the floor. Could be relatively cheap to move him too. With him gone, we'd still have the cap space needed for the moves you've identified.

However, I think Miller should be 1LW, Beauvillier 2LW, Hoglander 4LW, Raty 3C, and Aman/Joseph/Dries as 4C. Miller is WAY better on a wing.

I like your lines a lot better for sure, I think trading Myers with the bonus and waiting to deal with OEL later does make a lot of sense as well. Good thinking. Maybe OEL will have a good year and can be traded for a little bit of value at the deadline or another off season

Is there a limit to how many times a guy can be retained on? Would be funny to see him get paid by like 5 teams.

He was awful last yr and needs to go. At the same time I could see him having a bounce back season to where he could be worth like 3-4 mil.

Nashville isnt going to commit 5,500,000 of capspace to run OEL as 3rd pairing LHD (he would be behind Josi and McD at a minimum).
