Blackhawks Draft Strategy

Created by: BrodeurBro30
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2023
Published: May 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1 OVR: Bedard
19 OVR: I think you’re making a mistake if you trade the pick. I’d hold onto it. This is a deep draft that will help the rebuild. I think drafting your future 2C or an elite winger that can play alongside Bedard is the right call. You can’t really go wrong, but it depends on roster philosophy. (Build down the middle vs. Build a Line)

The Four Second Round Picks

I would trade a second pick to move up into the late first. Using CHI 2nd and NYR 2nd for example and getting a third 1st round pick would be a great way to weaponize your extra picks. I’d take a RHD defensemen in the late first and try to find a long term partner for Korchinski. There’s going to be a lot of defensemen taken in the back end of the first.

I think any Blackhawk fan would be happy with 3 Firsts. I’d recommend taking two forwards and a defensemen. Stay on path with the rebuild and the cups will arrive in due time.

Congrats on Bedard btw, he’s going to look sick in a Hawks jersey. Should be competitive in 2025 or 2026.

I think the Hawks need to capitalize on a team looking to shake up their roster and get a established, young NHLer. The writing is on the wall for Girard in Colorado, wonder what the price would be but at only 24 years old he'd be a great add. Boeser is another buy low candidate. Who knows what other teams will have to do to be cap compliant. This is the first offseason in the past 8 years worth being excited over in Chicago. There's so many different directions they can go with the cap space and roster spots they have. They definitely have more holes than they can fill in one year, but it's going to be a much quicker rebuild now.

I agree with not trading the 1st. I'd consider moving the 2nds if it means a buy low asset in return.

I think the Hawks try to get three firsts in this round.

Kyle Davidson said he wasn’t going to deviate from the rebuild and I think he’s right. Use spare picks where you can, but I think if the Hawks are bad another year and get another high pick, it’ll be for the better long term. Also, I think he’s vindicated for the Debrincat and Dach trades because he landed Bedard. The Mrazek deal also looked good in hindsight.

In regards to Boeser, if it doesn’t break the bank, the Hawks are in business. I also foresee another year of eating terrible contracts to buy draft picks.

Korchinski is gonna be paired with Jones or Sam Rinzel. I'd keep stacking the forward pool. Either way getting Bedard is a game changer and I'm super excited

I like Rinzel, but he’s going to be a project player for sure. It also doesn’t hurt to add another RHD to already loaded prospect pool.

How about Lafrenière? sign him for $4.2 mil AAV and the compensation is a 2024 2nd + the Rangers don't really have the cap space to match.

Stay the course.

Roll lower picks into higher picks.

Take on cap for picks.

Sign players who can be moved at TDL.

This is the correct approach. Don’t rush the rebuild. Tank another year and then you’ll start to see the light in a few years. Cups > playoffs
