Regarding mikkola maybe it’s overpaying but I think he’s underrated. Big, can play top 4 minutes, good defensively. I like his game. And he’s one of the youngest defensemen available even if you give term hell be 31 at the end of that contract. Maybe 4 is too much but I think the pens would benefit from a player like him. Better than Petry at least and I don’t think we afford the likes of graves or gavrikov

Now that I'm looking at it Bunting is at 5mil - am I an idiot or did you edit that lol? 5mil for Bunting is probably good - although yeah I would still expect Compher to be higher - especially with Landeskog out now COL is most likely going to do everything to keep him.

I would say it's a little early on Blomqvist - most likely needs at least some playing time in the AHL. You do have some cap room to throw another mil(2.5 total) at a better backup goalie. Plus Mikkola isn't getting close to that AAV so you'd have extra cap space there as well. Honestly I'd just scrap the Mikkola signing completely unless you are able to get rid of Rutta - just seems like a waste of money to have Rutta on the bench. Mikkola is in no way better than Petry - not even close. It's a solid roster. I think if you didn't sign Mikkola and signed a guy like Zucker instead it would probably be better. If you really like Mikkola then maybe if you dump Rutta and sign Mikkola for the same money? That's the only scenario I see signing Mikkola worth it. He's just a guy - a decent 3rd pair - nothing special. Just my thoughts

DeSmith makes basically nothing, could always bury him in the AHL, Sway/Bussi is absolutely the tandem next year if BOS elects to trade Ullmark, and for that return, they should absolutely take it

I’ve advocated signing him on prior ACGMs and gotten heat for it. I love Zucker but man that contract is gonna be brutal toward the end of it and I’m trying to avoid giving money and term to guys 30 and over

That's the thing if the bs are going to move ullmark, which I think they should, they need to use him to get a good young center. If this is the best deal possible fine, but if they can get a center, I'd rather a center over a pick

I mean, we already have Malkin, Letang, Rakell, and Rust contracts that are all going to be brutal at the end anyways. I think the team is just going for what's best for the next like 2 seasons while they're competitive. But I completely understand your hesitation. Doesn't have to be Zucker - I'm sure there are other possibilities in that price range. Even Domi as you already mentioned.
