No. I'm not giving up a 1st for a defenseman who's scared of being hit.

I respect the rebuilding, but those return are way too high.

It's tough to gauge the value of a 60 goal Hart trophy winner and a back-to-back first team right winger. It'll probably won't be that high, but they should get back multiple assets.

Kings can't afford Matthews. They would also probably rather ride out Clarke and Byfield.
Arizona isn't trading Cooley, Crouse or that Ottawa 1st, even for Marner.
Detroit says no thanks. I would do a second for Liljegren but not a first.

I think it's more about finding the right team and right situation. Those contacts are tough for contending teams to take on and rebuilding teams won't want to part with high end young assets. I honestly don't see a trade scenario that Toronto necessarily wins but it could be out there.

Liljegren isn't scared of being hit, he's just not a physical defenceman, he does a lot of things well. The Leafs shattered his confidence towards the end by bringing in a couple of vets but earlier in the season he was arguably one of their best defencemen.

I'll say this. Replacing Liljegren for Holl was idiotic.

Easy,

Taylor Hall was a MVP soon to be UFA 50% retained and got a 1st, a 3rd, and an A prospect. You won't get more than that for Matthews without retained salary or extention (which wont happen).

Eichel got a 1st, an A prospect and a good middle 6 roster player with term. That's the return for Marner.

Matthews isn't the equivalent of Hall. He'll get more than Eichel got. As for Marner, it depends on the team because he has two years left and he won't demand the 15 million that Matthews is demanding so his value might be higher.

MATTHEWS = UFA

EICHEL =/= UFA

You can trade for the best player in the world, which Auston clearly isn't, but if you can loose him for nothing in a year, the price will go down.

Wherever he's traded he's probably coming with an extension attached.

Pure speculation.

You got no footing to claim that the 2nd best paid player in the league would just agree to not hit the unrestricted free market and choose the city where he wants to play for most of his career.

You let the TML interests cloud your jugement.

In that scenario I think the Leafs keep him and pay him. Trading him for peanuts does them no good.

How do you know Matthews wants to stay in Toronto? He doesn't HAVE to stay. He simply has to play out his contract for 1 more season. Then he's a UFA and chooses his own destination.

You don't really believe the Leafs are the only team willing to give Matthews league max, do you?

How can you watch him year after year, giving a million interviews and not know he wants to get the f... out of Toronto?

He didn't want to sign more than 5 years with you guys, not a single UFA year, and now you think you'll convince him to sign for 8 when he can finally hit free agency?!?! I mean, wake up already dude. It's over.

Look at what happenned with Tkachuk, that's your future.

I think he'll sign short term, maybe three years, at a ridiculously high number.

Just let it go dude. You can't buy someone's love lol.

You are at the negociation's stage of grief, but he's gone for good after next season, probably making as much money in a state with less taxes.

If it comes down to money rather than location then the leafs will find a way to keep him. That's not my preferred option. I think he should be traded, preferably with an extension attached.

But we'll see.

Don't worry. You'll get McDavid in a few years.
