Building Around Bedard Look to the Future

Created by: Orionus
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2023
Published: May 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
By my account, the hawks should have three priorities this year:

1. Surround Bedard with short-term talent and protection. Hence the Boeser trade, the Monahan signing, and the Domi signing, as well as the Reaves signing.
2. Weaponize cap space - the Hawks save the Canucks from cap hell in exchange for moving up 9 spots in the first and flipping a 3rd for a 6th. They also save the Leafs the headache of buying out Murray in exchange for the leafs moving down about 15 spots and giving us a our future 5th back.
3. Signing or trading for soon to be UFAs who could potentially be kicked to a contender at the deadline for more assets (see Monahan, Boeser, Domi if he wants to bounce again, Murphy)

This AGM leaves enough room for the Hawks to retain at the deadline or be a 3rd party if they felt it worth it.

You're dilusional for 2 reasons

1. You actually think VAN would be stupid enough to make such a terrible trade

2. You believe Reinbacher will still be available at 11

If VAN waits til July 1 Myers will be easy to move since he's only owed $1M in salary, Boeser is a positive asset and no way VAN gives up the 11th overall pick for cap relief. Replace Myers with OEL and VAN might talk to you.

Freeing up 12.5 million dollars for next season while only moving down 8 spots doesn't sound too bad.

Myers will be easy to move after his bonus is paid on July 1st and Boeser is a positive asset, they wouldn't pay to do any of that.

1. It's spelled "delusional".
2. Calling Boeser a positive asset at that cap hit is a stretch. Re: Myers, there aren't a lot of teams eager to add $5M to their cap this summer, period, regardless of actual cash owed.
3. I would be shocked if Reinbacher was there at 11, which is why I think Ryan Leonard is the more likely pick.
4. Trading OEL wouldn't be a swap of firsts, it would be you giving up your 1st++.
