Buying out campbell this early in the deal sounds bad but the next two years are crucial for Edmonton. his buyout is also not really THAT bad. originally i wanted to bury him for a year but even then that still costs 3.8M

I think Murphy eventually nets a low 1st (even if it means retention or an add on to get there). Ceci is at least a bit of a dump (and a bit more to the Hawks). For the Hawks to have any interest in this, the pick would need to be a 1st or the prospect better. A very late 2nd and a midget winger prospect are not going to entice the Hawks to move Murphy. If that is the return, they wait for better and let him mentor all the young LHD they will be sorting through the next couple of seasons.

Cutting Campbell who had decent numbers for a structured squad and have poor numbers on the poor defensive edmonton. Then repeating the same mistake with Varlamov
