Matheson retention is brutal. No team will do that with a player they love.

Matheson is a hometown boy who made good. I really don't see him leaving.

I can't see Montreal accepting that trade and MAF doesn't want to be moving again.

Montreal could retain on Matheson, its just that they don't want to move him in the first place and that return, while having a lot of interesting and quality pieces, doesn't really seem worth it all for Montreal. Its basically a collection of futures that the Kings would be most comfortable with giving up. And while that may work with moving a Petersen or targeting a bigger money guy, I just don't see that Montreal is in a position to consider that unless there are other opportunities available to them that I don't see.

Matheson, with 3 years retention, would cost you WAAAAAYY more than that. You're in Clarke territory here.

Gee, I would do NONE of that, even the superficially appealing Matheson trade. Adding him at that AAV would be lovely, but how are we going to start filling the LhD pipeline with that dance card?

I would think Pinelli or Grans with a 2nd is probably more the deal to move Petersen. Can't see the Kings being ready to give up on a #5OA and wanting to at least give it one more season to see if the injury woes resolve themselves to figure out what they actually have in Turcotte. Pretty sure the Hawks would say yes and take this gamble though
