Would need a third team in this deal, with a potential of resigning marner, helly to Toronto, marner somewhere, and something rather shiny back to Winnipeg, probably something else to Toronto to make up the difference on helly and marner. If winnipeg selling helly, they would only upgrade first not sell it outright.

But if the jets were to turn down a trade for Hellebuyck centered around getting back Marner they're lost.

If the Jets unload on Hellebuyck, That means they're heading for a rebuild. Zero chance of a rebuilding Winnipeg team having remotely any interest in Mitch Marner. And William Nylander is the odd man out not Mitch Marner.

Nylander has been the only consistent performer (regular season and playoffs) for the leafs, Marner 100% gets traded before Nylander. Not to mention the cap advantages to trading Marner.

Something I was pondering earlier (as a Detroit fan). What about something centered around Hellebuyck + Pionk for Marner + Samsonov/Woll + Liljegren?

It's not too crazy a thought, I would say the leafs wouldn't see enough value in Pionk to make it worth moving Liljegren, who could be seen as having the potential to become and equivalent player in a couple years. Also that swap reminds me too much of the Sandin deal and I think the leafs have committed themselves to Liljegren by trading Sandin.
