SJ rebuild

Created by: sharksdoee
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 17, 2023
Published: May 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
SJ needs to clear out their few remaining assets and bottom out.
Boston - assuming PB/DK are done, do they look for a higher end Center to keep their window open during Pasta's prime. SJ takes on contract(s) for cap help. I can see Hertl not waiving, maybe Couture instead.
Toronto - Do they do a huge trade/shakeup or smaller changes. Barabonov could be a great fixture in the top 9.
Colorado - Solve the 2C problem at a very reasonable cap hit with the retention. Top 6 matches up with just about anyone.
Thoughts on trade value/any of these reasonable? would Boston/Colorado go for one of SJ's centers?
Where would/could EK go for 5million retained (EDM just for example now)? EK and Couture's contracts end same year and fits rebuild timeline for when more money might be needed.

Edmonton simply cannot afford EK 65 unless you wanna take on Yamo, Ceci, Campbell, plus help us pay another team to be the third party retention.

Boston doesn't have the cap space for Tomas Hertl.

And Mike Grier isn't eating $20,000,000 on Erik Karlsson, And the offer needs to be far better than that if he was willing to eat that much.

I personally don't think couture is the way colorado will go. 6 mil is still a big contract for a team who is cap tight to take on. They have to use landys money on multiple pieces to make next year work.

Fair enough on the Boston point, but they need to somehow get Center situated.
As for EK, i don't know, MG ate 1/3 of Burns' contract for an awful return so I'm not expecting a whole lot.

True, maybe they go in-house with Newhook and hope he makes a jump.

Tough to find a team to take on Couture's or giving up a 1st+. Even with 4m retention, his age is too risky. I don't think the Avs would have interest in paying for the twilight years of L.C
Edit: If they could get another team to do the second retention, I would be cool with it. Probably too many years left though

If that’s all it takes to get Hertl then Sweeney does that tomorrow. Him and Pasta are pals too.

I had to look at the BOS trade for 2 minutes

literally a 1st for Hertl, a 3rd for each dump, SJ getting Sweeniusd

Couture has been a great player but I can't see the Avs having interest at that price with age/term/cap involved.
