Avs next year

Description
I'm not great with trade values and cap hits. So bare with me!
1. I think the Columbus trade works below because Toews will probably command too much money for the Avs to re-sign. Roslovic is still young and can grow with this Avs team. I think he's a good fit for 2C and his numbers could really jump playing in the Avs top 6. I like the idea of bringing in Liam Foudy as well also have his brother. And he's a cheap option for the bottom 6. Towes instantly becomes the jackets best defender. And he's a left D. So he fits well next to a guy like Adam Boqvist.
2. MacDermid can go anywhere. I felt Edmonton because they could use some toughness.
Free agents:
I brought in Drouin because he will come in relatively cheap. The Mackinnon connection. He was second on Montreal in assists. And you never know he could have a sneaky good year in Colorado with less pressure and playing with some familiar faces in Lehky and Mack. You put him next to 50 goal scorer Rantanen on the PP. That could be nice. Also brought in Calvin De Haan as he's a cheap decent bottom 6 dman.

I feel like this addresses some of what the Avs were looking for. A solid 2C (Who can grow and still get better) A draft pick to help with their shallow prospect pool (is 2nd too much? Should it be a 3rd?) And it helps revamp the bottom 6 a bit with the additions of Drouin and Foudy. Let me know your thoughts. :)

Has anything come from the Nichushkin situation yet? It's also crazy how the Avs can move on from a heck of a defenseman in Toews and still have an extremly deep defensive core.

Idk whatchu mean "Oilers could use toughness". Tell me Kane, Kostin, Nurse, Desharnais, Bjugstad, Ekholm isn't tough enough.

I haven't heard anything! I hope everything is okay there. Sure is a curious situation. And yeah the Avs have a really good dcore. It's wild.

Toews shouldn’t be the odd man out imo, Girard should be. I realize Toews may be hard to extend, but he’s too important to the team right now. Nichushkin may be on LTIR along with Landeskog, I’m not sure of any updates on him. He may get voided altogether.

That’s not a good return on Toews even as pending UFA. COL isn’t moving Toews unless 2 things happen, one is he wants $8+M, or the return is overwhelming and a middle 6 forward with no career 50pt seasons a bottom 6 forward with zero 20 pt seasons and 2nd does get a a top pairing dman who has had back to back 50pt seasons.

Several people that cover the Avs have said he would have played against DAL if they advanced.

That's a valid point. Could change to a 1st. They also seemingly have this ability to get the best out of players. Who have not necessarily put up amazing numbers on their previous teams. Nichuskin, Lehkonen, Graves to name a few. Roslivic could be one of those guys as well. Avs like to take chances like that. Sure you're only getting a 40 point guy. But he's still young. Perhaps the Avs could untap some potential and he becomes a 60 point guy. But I do see your point. Toews is a fantastic dman and could probably fetch more.

Appreciate the feedback. I do see how Girard could be the odd guy out over Toews. I was just thinking in terms of Toews is older, probably will command more money. And he'll probably have higher trade value. But I could see Girard on his way out as well. It'll be interesting to see what they actually do. Because I have a feeling one will be moved for a 2C.

That's not enough for Toews. Even for only 1 year as a rental he's still arguably a top 10 D. Foudy is basically a reclamation project that probably tops out at best as a third liner. Roslovic is an unimpressive C, and a 2nd not even in a good draft year. Byram likley won't sign that deal, he'd want more over that length so the better idea is a lower bridge deal, and next year you've lost Roslovic in all likelihood once Landy is back.

Think about it this way, would you want Compher as the primary piece coming back if you were trading Toews? Because that is what you are doing. If you trade Toews you better be getting more than we hope he improves you are getting true top 6 center. If the package doesn’t knock you out you just play him the whole season and are happy that you have arguably the best top pairing in the league because that is super valuable even for just one season.
