Why would NY trade a winger/defenseman duo like Barzal and Pulock for two clear downgrades?

Is this a good deal, probably not. Is Marner the clear best player in the deal? Absolutely yes.

Based on regular season point totals maybe lmao, but Barzal would put up video games next to Mathews. Marner is one of the most overrated players in the league. Look at Michael Bunting or even Calle Jarnkrok’s numbers if you don’t believe me.
