Why on earth would a rebuilding team do that for two years or marner?

2 years of Marner, Doesn't get anywhere close to that kind of return. And how many times do we need to mention? That teams in full rebuild mode do not take on expensive players.

And this current roster as is, isn't winning no cup next year. just too many far better teams than soft Toronto.

Both teams decline. San Jose is rebuilding, they aren't giving up the equivalent of 4 1sts for 2 years of Marner, who would walk in FA before they are even competitive. Vancouver doesn't need goaltending and aren't taking on Murray salary, they are tight to the cap and can't take on any more salary, especially for a player they don't have a need for.

All these moves just to have a team that's way worse than what they have now and fixing none of the Leafs problems
