Detroit would absolutely be a playoff team with this roster. Likely one of the top offences in the league.

Really??? We may see Mazur around the half way point but he isn't making the team our of camp. So that puts Fabbri on the 2nd line who is lucky if he plays 50 games he's had 4 ACL tears. I like Rasmussen but he isn't a 1st line player. Chiarot can barley play on his good side but on his offside is terrible. I'm sorry but this team isn't a playoff team.

I assume your reasoning for this team being a playoff team is Matthews but Edmonton only made the playoffs once in McDavid's first 4 seasons and that was with arguably the 2 best players in the world.

They also had nothing else beyond those two. Literally nothing, you have a lot more good pieces here than Edmonton had for most of those seasons.

The Red Wings’ offense is ranked dead last in goals-scored during the Yzerman era. I think it would take a little more before the are a top scoring team.

Matthews would be a 50-60 goal boost to the offence. If not more.

But Edmonton's top 6 during those seasons was much better than what Detroit has now. RNH and Lucic were there for that stretch and Lucic was still producing then. They also had Hall for a season. Maroon for 3 seasons and production wise his best seasons were in Edmonton Eberle and Strome were there for a couple of seasons as well.

We are further away now than we were at the start of last season. To be fair Yzerman didn't have much to work with.

I think you are mixing up a lot of years there. And also over rating a lot of oiler players. McDavid and Draisaitl are great but most of their the other players there sucked. You guys have probably better depth than the Oilers do now let alone back then

Probably sounded like I was blaming Yzerman. Not my intention. Was just using “Yzerman era” as timeframe. I don’t think one guy is the answer. Let the kids develop in 2023/24. Add a Lindholm or someone next summer. Compete in 2024/25.

The Detroit team above has 4 top 6 players. Let's say Matthews offsets McDavid and Larkin offsets RNH. Do Perron and Raymond offset Draisaitl? I'm not saying those players 5 players were good every season but 2 out of 5 players I mentioned played well enough in each season to offset Perron and Raymond.

Larkin offsets RNH by a huge margin. His 100 point season is a mirage. He's a 60 point player without McDavid feeding him points on the PP and often at 5v5. Take out McDavid and I am not sure the Oilers are a playoff team to be honest. Draisaitl is certainly great but after their top 2 dogs they have a lot of nothing. Matthews, Larkin and Raymond and Sieder is a terrific core.

I didn't think you were being rude or disrespectful at all. Plus what you said was completely true. Since Detroit's last playoff appearance they have been awful. So losing Bertuzzi and Vrana who were in Detroit's top 6 at the start of the season. In STL Vrana seemed to figure things out and started to score some goals and I think Bertuzzi will put up about 30 goals next season.

Ok but even if Detroit got Matthews for just picks they still not a playoff team. Seider and Walman play well together but then you have Maatta and Chiarot (playing on his offside) in your 2nd pair. That could be one of the worst top 4s in the league. Matthews just doesn't make Detroit a playoff team by himself. Maybe if we still had Bertuzzi, Vrana and Hronek. Plus these type of trades hardly ever work out well for the team getting the single player.

I would think they would find some young d or make a trade to find some younger d to fit the window that would help balance the roster but this team wouldn't be bad. Definitely a playoff team

Detroit doesnt want or need Matthews. He's a greedy immature pre Madonna that doesn't care about winning. Yzerman wants players like in Tampa that will take a little less to fill out the team. The best players only care about winning and will take a little bit less to play with a better team.
