And than kucherov Tavares? The whole idea of this trade is to free up money and send Tavares near home to an young an upcoming sabres team. He still has a lot of hockey left in him and is willing to adapt his game, so it is not just a cap dump. And BUF has the cap space to make it work. So why not?

The Jets aren't trading Hellebuyck for nothing.

NYR decline-- leaves a GAPING hole at LHD and a worse cap situation. There is no trade where Marner comes to NYR without one of the big cap hits going back (Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, etc.). Maybe a three way where NYR get multiple cost controlled assets (instead of Marner), is the only way they would even consider giving up Miller.

I would love to have Trouba on my team. What would a deal for Marner looks like?

1 year of Hell ya back for a cost controlled and young goalie with a lot of upside and a good prospect is not nothing... Notably in the situation the jets find themselves right now - nevermind.

No, it is very close to nothing. An injury prone, disappointing backup goalie and a meh longshot prospect that every team has a few of isn't much.

Winnipeg will trade Helle to a team where he is willing to extend to push up the price, so even if you only want to trade for him as a rental you'll need to pay full price and beat those offers.

Fair enough. But Sammy is not injury prone like a Matt Murray. He battled a few things this season but he showed also that he is capable of being the starter - not a backup and certainly not disappointing. All narrative.
You would take a little bit of a gamble, of course - but it could be worth it. For my part add a pick or another, better prospect.

Depends on what Toronto wants. I don't see NYR throwing in Lafreniere and if Trouba is included they cannot get rid of Miller too. It's tough to work out the deal.

Maybe a three way trade with a team like Detroit, Carolina, or Buffalo.
I can imagine Trouba + Paterka/Detroits 1st/Suzuki+1st would be an appealing package for Toronto.
A player like Zadina+mid pick/Veleno/Drury/Greenway+Jokiharju+later pick or any of those players plus them taking Goodrow would be worth it for NYR.

What happened to Tampa Goodrow? Is his situation / contract that bad? Would be pleased to get some information on this front.

No he's still a decent player. NYR just need the cap for Laffy/Miller. PPL think he's a negative asset for NYR and that they'll have to pay to get rid of him but don't realize his buyout is great for their situation. He actually gives excess cap the next two years (+200k and +100k), and doesn't have a big cost year until Panarin/Trouba are off the books. He's had his best two productive years with NYR (31 and 33 points) while being amazing on the PK/defensive side of things.

I don't see Buffalo or the Rangers doing that.

Both are great players but with their cap hits and trade protection it'd be tough to find a team to trade JT and MM to.

Don't see Kane signing anywhere north of the border.

I don't know much about Minten but that seems light for Hellebuyck and I'm not much of a Hellle fan, there'd need to be another decent prospect or pick in there at least.

I'm not throwing any Leafs hate in saying this but this does not look like a cup winner to me, not a terrible team but just not sure it'd get all the way.

The problem is the Sabres have the cap space in 23-24, however in 24-25 that Tavares deal would cause some issues. They have almost their entire defense in need of new contracts for 24-25, and players like Dahlin and Power will get big deals, add in others like Mittelstadt, Krebs, Jokiharju, Stillman, and even Liljigren (going by the trade) needing new deals as well and suddenly all of that extra cap disappears. They would potentially end up needing to move someone out to make it work, and do they want to do that for an aging center who while still a good player, is not a core piece for them? This is also all assuming Liljigren would be a capable top 4 Dman, it gets even murkier if they need to add another legit top 4 RD.
