Replace Pettersson with Pickering, POJ or Ty Smith and you're good. As great as Matthews is to get, losing Pettersson puts us in a really bad position defensively.

Look, I get that It's Matthews, but I find it hard to believe Dubas is able to look at the Pens' blue line and trade away Marcus Pettersson.
I know what I'm getting back, but Jake and Petey are huge losses at positions the Pens are thin. Is Matthews worth something like this? If he gets an extention, probably. But it's not in places where the Pens can necessarily afford to lose.

Probably not Pickering. POJ maybe. I also think the 1sts would be top 15 protected. And, Matthews would have to come with an extension. As such, Pit would have to have a trade partner for Granlund. There are a lot of moving parts.

Pittsburgh would accept as long as we can extend Matthews

Make a Pens lineup with this trade. I genuinely want to see what it would look like.

Many moving parts for sure, but the Pens aren't going to be left with no real dmen on left side. The cost of this trade makes it's extraordinarily hard to have assets to replace Pettersson, let alone fill out the rest of the left side as they need to do right now.

Don't get me wrong, getting Matthews changes the game for the Pens in a very profound way, but this trade makes us the Edmonton Oilers.

I was going to post something positive about finally seeing a leafs ACGM sending Murray to SJ for closer to fair value instead of the ones sending SJ's 2023 2nd back, but then I saw the author was a fellow Sharks fan....
