Offseason v2 w Description

Created by: phillyjabroni
Team: 2023-24 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2023
Published: May 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade #1
To ARI - Ryan Ellis
To PHI - John Farinacci

Arizona will need contracts to get to the cap floor and a perfect candidate is LTIR-eligible Ryan Ellis. Flyers get a solid bottom-six prospect who has already said he will test FA. Maybe the early negotiation rights might help sign him. If not, no harm done.

Trade #2
To COL - Kevin Hayes (50% retained)
To PHI - 27th overall

Colorado's center depth was hurt after losing Nazem Kadri in the offseason. They get to add a solid 2C/3C player who also experimented in playing on the wing this year. Hayes has fallen out with the coaching staff and could benefit from a change of scenery. COL will need to make the money work but adding about 3.6M. They are still in contention mode and that 1st rounder won't help them anytime in the near future.

Trade #3
To DET - Travis Konecny, 87th overall
To PHI - Filip Zadina, Albert Johansson, 17th overall, 43rd overall

TK is coming off a red-hot season and his value will never be higher. He has two years left on his deal and is young enough that he can be part of DET's resurgence back to the playoffs. Zadina can benefit from a change of scenery and hopefully get back to sniping goals under Torts. DET adds in a depth defensive prospect as well as two picks to make the deal work.

Trade #4
To TBL - Nick Seeler
To PHI - 2024 4th round pick

Tampa is going up against the cap and having a solid bottom-pair defensemen for an extended playoff run. Parting with the 4th rounder is standard for depth rentals that are inexpensive. This deal can happen during the season as well. PHI gets a middle round pick for an upcoming UFA

Trade #5
To TOR - Felix Sandstrom
To PHI - Matt Murray, 2026 2nd round pick, 2027 1st round pick swap rights*

*If pick is top-10, swap rights go to 2028 (top-2 protected). If still not conveyed, swap rights go to 2029 (unprotected) + 2030 3rd round pick

Bear with me on this trade, it's fairly unique for the NHL but not that unique for the NBA. PHI takes on Murray's contract for a 2nd round pick and 1st round swap rights. This means that PHI has the right to swap its first round pick with Toronto's if TOR is more favorable. Toronto gets cap relief and another chance at the cup now given all the uncertainty around the core in exchange for swap rights down the road. A little creative and highly unrealistic, but I think the framework would be interesting to integrate to the NHL

Trade #6
To NYR - 43rd overall
To PHI - Barclay Goodrow, 23rd overall

NYR needs cap flexibility and PHI can absorb Goodrow for moving up 20 picks in the draft. Personally I like Goodrow and what he can bring to the table, but he's overpaid. Good hardworking player to have in the bottom six but just doesn't fit into NYR long term plans.

Trade #7
To VGK - Ivan Provorov (22.22% retained)
To PHI - Alec Martinez, Brendan Brisson, 31st overall

Vegas gets the opportunity to beef up their defense by adding Provorov. I'm not entirely sold on VGK making this trade from a value standpoint, but it's fairly similar to the Chyrchun return and Provorov hasn't been as attractive as Chychrun in the market. Brisson is probably the hardest part to part with in the trade as VGK sent Dean for Barbashev.

Trade #8
To LAK - Carter Hart
To PHI - Cal Peterson, Alex Turcotte, 2024 1st round pick, 2025 2nd round pick

LAK gets another goaltender for the future as the Jon Quick era ends. They get to dump Peterson and the PHI takes a flyer on Turcotte. A personal favorite of mine from the 2019 class, the injuries have been worrisome but I'd figure his value right now is similar to the return of Lias Andersson a few years back. The picks are hard to part with for LA but getting out of the Peterson contract and getting a goaltender with a low QO and RFA status helps them in the long and short run

If I was the GM of TO, I would just trade Samsonov for assets and run Woll/Murray next year. Paying this much is just ridiculous. It won't cost this much anyways but my point remains

It was 16th overall and Murray for 7th overall a year ago and not much else has changed other than its one fewer year remaining on the deal. The difference in those picks is worth about a late first/early 2nd which is about the same thing in value as the trade above. It's more so the cap space as well compared to selling Samsonov as an RFA

Take out one of Johansson or the 2nd in the wings deal. Can't get both with a first

I honestly didn't read anything past the first sentence. I don't think you understand me. I simply will not pay much at all to move Murray. I think Woll is the starter next season, and am fine with Murray playing 1B. Samsonov didn't do enough in the post season to warrant a big contract so unless I can get him for 3 years at 3 or less, I would trade him for whatever I can get and keep Murray.

Yeah but at that price I'd rather have Debrincat.

Probably closer to $8M. With 2023 1st round pick (NYI) being the main piece in a trade for Debrincat or Konecny, I'd rather give up Kubalik and a 3rd instead of Johansson and a 2nd.

Other than the Hart and Sandstrom trades, the other trades are definitely better than ur first team. The Hart and Sandstrom trades are still just as terrible as ur first team you made. RFAs are also still underpaid but 🤷🏼‍♂️

Think this was leaked after Murray nixed a trade to Buffalo for that trade and then OTT made the DeBrincat move

Is there any thought to ever moving Coots? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone look into this.
