Why am I starting to see Leafs fans dump our best defenceman for a late round pick? Did I miss something? Are we really neglecting 3 years of solid, consistent play because of a few games?

Maybe quantity wise but not quality wise. Drury has contracts to sign, so a trade is better than a buyout.

He's a shutdown dman who stabilized the dcore, putting up points is the last thing he need to do on this team. While he is aging and his production has gone down, resigning him wouldn't be a bad idea if he's returning for cheap.

He still has another year at $5M which is pricey. He might be better back with Rielly next year if there's a new coach who changes up the pairs/structure

You replaced him with Severson but I think he could probably occupy the same role as Soucy but at a cheaper price point tge following season, for which you haven't left much extension dollars.

Him and Soucy aren't the same player at all, you're also ignoring the fact that he makes $5M next season, for 1M more you get a much better player in Severson. Seems like a no brainer, not sure what your argument is
