NJD may be at the stage where they could adding veterans at discounted rates…and in turn, sell off extra pieces for picks. Idea here is to add a bunch of middle round picks in a deep draft.

No reason to sign Severson to a deal that long when they have Nemec waiting to come up.

Wings pass, I've seen him play and healthy scratch and not score for very long stretches, he won't be a wing, especially for this astronomical ask of a price

A qualifying offer is only a 1-year contract. If he wants term (multiple years), he will sign below QO amount.

Even his original ask was well below his QO amount.

Or he could take a 1-year qualifying offer (I think it’s near $10 mil for him) then hit UFA next summer and take a massive 7-year deal with the team of his choice and a higher salary cap. Even if he has a down year, someone will pay him.

He would probably be on 2nd liner in Detroit. Produces similar to Kubalik, with plus defense, and can play center. And along with Copp, would be a top penalty killer.

Boqvist is worth more and Thompson is worth less. No reason at all to replace Boqvist with veterans tbh

Holtz needs to be a roster regular

He wanted to come to NJ.

A qualifying offer amount is not a minimum AAV for long-term AAV.
It does not mean he will get $10m+ on any deal.

His ask was $9m...so he will likely come in somewhere in the 8's

I don't think we would trade this many guys for picks...nor sign many veterans at discounts....it was just to show examples of moves for this approach.

Agree 100% on Holtz.

Would depend on other moves we make. If he ends up as 24th guy...maybe later pick works...but we wouldn't know until October, so it would be 2024 pick.

I'd pass on Yegor for that price. I'm not opposed to getting him, thats just more than I'd pay personally after the Stat line he put up last season

And he wouldn't be in the top 6 as of now. Perron, Kubalik, Rasmussen, Raymond are all above him on the wings. He'd likely slot into the third line unless he has some chemistry with someone

The offensive production will be similar to Kubalik, the defense similar to Copp. Can play W or C. And is 24 years old.

Kubalik -- Larkin -- Raymond
Sharangovich -- Copp -- Perron
Rasmussen -- Kasper -- Berggren
Fabbri/Mazur -- Veleno -- Zadina

I'd be interested in Walsh but Im not sure he really has much trade value. I'd be willing to send Rathbone for him.

He is a little untested in that he hasn't played in NHL (been blocked in NJ). But he is a good prospect.

Hockey Prospecting (Byron Bader) has the following as top prospects (ranked on probability of turning into a star).

1. Luke Hughes 90%
2. Brandt Clarke 88%
3. Logan Cooley 85%
4. Simon Nemec 83%
5. Kevin Korchinski 78%

6. Olen Zellweger 78%
7. Reilly Walsh 76% < ----
8. Lane Hutson 74%
9. Shane Wright 62%
10. Lukas Reichel 56%

11. Denton Mateychuk 53%
12. Michael Benning 49%
13. Jordan Dumais 46%
14. Danila Yurov 46%
15. Ryan Ufko 42%

Rasmus Sandin was
Nils Lundkvist was at 34% last year when he was dealt for a 1st rounder.
David Rundblad was at 32% when he was dealt for 1st rounder.
Alex Romanov was in single digits.

Not that this one metric is say-all, be-all, end-all...but only asking for a 3rd here

Kubalik outperformed him considerably statistically last year and already has chemistry with Larkin. Rasmussen matched his offensive output in almost 20 less games and is our best defensive forward. Yegor is on the 3rd line under him. Basically swap Yegor and Ras.
