Trying to add offense

Created by: maxyg1234
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to stay within the realm of reality and leave some cap space for extending Aho, Nylander, Necas, Jarvis, etc in 2024-25 offseason (when the cap will hopefully rise a bit as well). Not sure on trade value regarding Nylander, but if Toronto's new GM is looking to shake up the core four he (or Marner) could be an interesting target.

WAY too much for Nylander. Skjei had 18 goals as a defenseman. Both are rentals, Skjei is cheaper and LD are more valuable than wingers. Drop the pick and maybe add something in the later rounds, this is an overpayment.

Nylander had 16 more points this year than any player on Carolina. He had more goals and more assists than anyone as well. I get that he has one year left but so does Skjei. I think if leafs moved Nyalnder, it would be with an extension for the team aquiring him. In that case this would not be enough.
For a 40 goal 47 assist. In the playoffs, he had 10 points in 11 games, so it carried over.

I like Skjei, but I find it unlikely he scores 18 again (especially on another team that doesn't lean on d-men scoring as much), and Nylander is a 40-goal, point per game + player. I may not have the trade value perfect, but they're not gonna give him away for a Top 4 D and a late pick. However, if Skjei does have that much value on the market, potentially we could make a similar move for Marner instead?

Lmaoooooooo it's not even in the ballpark of being enough for Nylander. Canes homers live in another world.

Carolina also play a system that strangles offensive talent. Players like Erik Haula, Ryan Dzingel, and even Paul Stastny have struggled despite being consistent scorers elsewhere. Not to the levels of Nylander, but look at the players that have left the Canes offense and blossomed. Niederreiter, Lindholm, Trocheck. That production would come down. It's a team built on scoring from blueline point shots. Skjei does that seemingly as well as anyone

Nylander would be by far the canes best player. Canes are happy just being a consistent regular season team that makes the playoffs though. They will never shell out what it takes to go further. Which is fine. They get consistent playoff revenue and can sell the hope that this is their year. It's a smart business model but it doesn't win it all.

I'd make the same argument about Nylander scoring 40 again. Shooting 14% this year (his career average is 12%) and he plays with Matthews Marner Tavares and Rielly on that powerplay until ROR got there. I think if you're going to buy high on Nylander, you have to sell high on skjei here to. Use the inflated value of both

Canes need another offensive threat like Nylander more than the Leafs do.

Leafs need another Top 4 Dman more than the Canes do.

Fair trade can be worked out.

All of your takes are laughable, use the internet the find out what a nylander trade could look like. He's not worth more than that. If anything that's an overpay.
