I don't see why Calgary would do this. The framework is fine from an outsiders perspective, but Calgary needs more scoring as it is, and they're giving up Toffoli as well. Why?

True, I just kind of threw him in there, you could take him and Brodie out and downgrade the pick. Or make him Hanafin or something. I was just thinking how it’d be nice to get Toffoli.

We also have no interest in Brodie.

Fair enough

I changed it because I’m starting to realize adding Toffoli and Brodie to the trade makes little sense.

There are rumours the Canucks might want to buyout Garland, this would be a better alternative.

I don't see Calgary doing this unless they can find another top Center. Otherwise they may as well take a package of futures elsewhere. Kadri isn't a 1C and they have a surplus of wingers already.

Yah that'd be ideal, but if they can't do that (and I don't see how they could pull that off) then getting a right wing would be their next best bet no? Also I don't see how futures help at this point, Calgary is set up to be a contending team, much like Toronto. Which is why I think a big trade with both teams could work.

Almost zero rumours about Vancouver has been right since the regime change, also Alvin already said its unlikely we would buy anyone out

Ok what type of return would you be looking for for Garland at 30% (or similar) retention?

I doubt Vancouver is interested in retaining at all for that long but if it's that much of retention it's going to be a 1st+

Not even if he wouldn’t resign (hypothetical, not saying he will or won’t)?

No, because Calgary can't contend without a 1C and Nylander doesn't fix that issue. If Lindholm isn't staying Calgary should be hard sellers

I agree, that they could be good trade partners. I could see a dman for winger or winger/winger trade. Calgary issue is that they never rebuild, retool, or sell at deadlines so they always rely on mid round picks to pan out (which the probability is lower). They don't have a lot coming through the pipeline at center or RD, so trading Lindholm or Anderson really cripples their competitiveness if solely because 1C and 1RD are such hard positions to fill. It doesn't help that they stymied their prospects by never letting them play under Sutter. If they were smart, they would have sold at the deadline and had assets going into this draft.

Conversely Toronto has the issue of being too top heavy and not having enough depth south of their top lines. Washington had the same issue with Ovechkin and Backstrom in their golden years. It does make sense for Toronto to trade one of the core 4 for depth at D and Wing elsewhere.

You don’t think Kadri and Backlund could work as 1-2cs for a season or 2? I thought with one of the best wing groups in the league that could work. Plus there’s Dube.

Lol not a chance. Calgary had an even better wing group a year ago incase you were unaware. Even if we say Huberdeau and Gaudreau are a wash, Tkachuk >> Nylander, and Lindholm >> Kadri. It would literally be a worse team than last years Flames

Fair enough. I do think these guys would be good fit on the other teams but losing Lindholm as 1c is a big one.

It's just simply not an option if the team wants to compete
