A rental does not have anywhere close to this value, this is asinine tears of joy

You can add Matthews and Nylander to the Ducks for free and we still arent a playoff team

Not to mention this blatantly ignores the salary cap problems this creates with needing to sign Zegras and Terry still, and 4-5 NHL Dmen, and fill out the bottom 6

Zegras, Terry, McTavish, Drysdale, 2023 2OA, 2024 1st, 2025 1st, Gaucher, Luneau, Zellweger and Mintyukov are all untouchables, especially for a rental that puts us in salary cap hell

And the Ducks have been known to operate with an internal budget between 8-10M below the cap ceiling

There is no world where this makes a lick of sense for ANA, Massive overpayment that sets the Ducks back for 10+ years

Right but this deal is great for the Leafs. Have you ever thought about that?

Ya, i could see this happening if the Ducks have Matthews and Willy signed to contracts and if the Leafs were to rebuild.
Only change id make would be exchange the 2025 1st and 2024 2nd for Drysdale. Peace.

Oh ye thats my B, no idea what I was thinking.

Every team was only brought into existence to make the Leafs better, might as well throw Zegras in here as a punishment, next time I wont speak against our lord and saviours tears of joy

You guys don't have to take Matthews or Nylander, and don't have to give us picks. Just give me McTavish for our BOS first this year, and your insubordination against the Mecca of the Hockey Universe will be forgiven ..............smirk

Why trade for anyone then? Every player could be a free agent.

Plus if one poster said ANA has an internal cap, why would they want to have to compete for two players in FA?

We are still rebuilding so there’s no point to trade away 3 1st rounds picks, one being at number 2 and a 20 year old top 6 center for the next 10+ years

This whole thing makes absolutely no sense for us

why would they trade for an 11M rental? Why would they trade that many young and cheap assets in a rebuild for aging ones that are going to be looking for raises

This doesnt line up at all with how the Ducks are building, this only helps the Leafs avoid a disaster of Matthews leaving for nothing

When you factor in our 2023 2nd (33OA) and McTavish this is essentially 5 1sts from the worst team in the league. Like you gotta see how ridiculous that is regardless who goes to ANA

I didn't create the trade but i would hope the poster was thinking both players would sign extensions for that haul.

I also think the price with those two extended is about fair. Now whether it makes sense for Ana to do is another question. It would depend on if they want to compete right away or rebuild

leafs say yes in a heartbeat. you get jones, fantilli, arguably a lottery pick in '24, and a certain lottery pick in '25 when matthews and nylander walk
