It's not cap compliant, and I don't see any team wanting Millers 8m X 7 years contract starting at age 30.

I really like what you’ve done here.
But as a VAN fan, I’d hope they would not make this trade. We are so thin at C and D

I like Nylander trust, but you have to worry about lack of physicality in the playoffs and also evidence or difficulty to negotiate a contract with him if he's not getting his number. Miller threw 200 hits last season, Nylander 18, Miller also put up point per game numbers. If Nylander agrees to sign long-term with Van prior to the trade I wonder if they add considering years 36/37 might be a question mark for Miller. But also cap will move over 5 years.

I know he showed up in the playoffs this season with some points, but I wonder if we suffered in other areas because of that non-lethal threat of taking a man out of a play with a hit. Can't just look at goals and points. What do we do if Nylander wants $9-10M, but we can only afford to go $8-9M?

I think the Canucks keep Miller. The only way the Canucks trade for Nylander is if he himself makes the deal happen by only being willing to re-sign there exclusively, otherwise the Canucks probably wait until UFA.

Sorry your logic isn't valid. It makes absolutely no difference that Nylander if upcoming UFA or not. If he wants too much money that the Leafs think he's worth, you don't sign him and spend that money elsewhere. As a suggested, I'd be really worried about Miller's contract and value going forward for seven years.

Seattle passes. No need for the player offered. Doesn't offer more than what's already on the roster.

Sorry you can't see my logic. I don't see how you wouldn't want to get at least something back in return for a guy if you won't be able to sign him next year. I would have to stamp that as "not valid" XD

Well if you want to trade Nylander (and Matthews) for something as they become UFAs....that's another issue. Having Miller till age 37 is the problem. It is lousy trade for the Leafs.

By the way, every year there are about three upcoming UFAs on a team. The majority don't get traded....I mean if every team tried to trade their UFAs, there is no market.
:Most contending teams keep their upcoming UFAs and even acquire more for a Cup run.
So the Leafs do the decision.....trade their upcoming UFAs for futures, and not really be Cup contenders or 23/24. But if they keep Matthews and Nylander for 23/24....they will be "going for it" and yes quite possibly be at risk at losing them for nothing summer of 2024.
