Bruins Proposal I Received

Created by: Chapee44
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2023
Published: Jun. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My buddy who is a Bruins fan sent me this idea he saw. He liked it on the premise that Bergeron is retiring and Krebs would immediately jump in as a 2C. I think Buffalo would be winning this deal, but if Swayman is gonna price himself out anyways then it could certainly be an option.

Avs decline - they need to make that asset count and this doesn't do it for them.

Agreed. They are in cap hell. I tried playing with their roster and it's not pretty. Especially if they don't get their 1C for a million dollars with Bergeron again.

Moving back only 12 spots while recouping a quality goal scorer for under 3 million a year and a 3rd seems like making that asset count to me.

Not really in the Avs case. They don't develop their non top-10 talent well and Olofsson is an expiring UFA that fills a temporary need but doesn't help with the 2C issue. IMO, if they're trading this year's 1st, it's got to be for a C that plays the Avs style and isn't a UFA within the next 3-4 years.

With Landeskog, and possibly Nichushkin, out for this coming season you only have 3 top6 forwards. You can't expect pick 27 to be that for year 1 anyways. In recent drafts the player taken at 27 versus 39 have been pretty much equivalent in hindsight aside from a slight edge to Ostapchuk at 39 two years ago and a big edge to Jason Robertson at 39 over Morgan Frost at 27 in 2017.

You're arguing against a point I'm not making. I'm not expecting pick 27 to be a player for the Avs anytime soon but they also don't have much talent in the system and need to get more in there. I believe I also said they need to get more immediate value out of trading that pick should they choose to do so. Getting lower picks (that they don't develop) and one year of Olofsson isn't good value for their situation.

They should be able to resign Olofsson provided he continues to score and they want to. There's other assets to move as well. They should make a decision between Byram and Girard at 2LD and move the other to address the top6. "Not developing lower picks" shouldn't be something that decides the trades you make. It should push them to address the personnel they employ to develop those picks. It's backwards logic when you're always gonna have lower picks to use.

Bruins wouldn't take that package for Swayman alone, and in any case makes way more sense for the Bruins to trade Ullmark than Swayman given Sway is younger and his contract will probably come in at a somewhat lower AAV than Ullmark's current 5M.

Poor trade for the Avs. They need the quality pick or else should only use it to fill their genuine need. A 2C. As to your point about VN. He should be back this season so not an issue.
