Would Trotz do it

Created by: OkMan

Description
The Preds need a 2LW, and Laf fits that fun mould that Trotz talked about during his presser a few days ago. I have to assume that bringing back K’Andre Miller has to be the Rangers’ top priority right now. I see him getting around 4m, which leaves only ~7m in cap space for Rangers. Matching this Laf offer sheet would leave them with only ~2.5m in cap space to fill out the rest of their roster, and I don’t think they could do it.

I have faith that Laf could flourish under Brunette, but the questions is: “would Trotz do it.”

2023 draft:
7 OA - Zach Benson
46 OA - Matheiu Cataford
47 OA - Hunter Brzustewicz

Barrie trade: I think SEA would be an ideal destination. Their power play was lacking this year, so bringing in an effective power play quarterback would prove beneficial.

Free Agency:
Bring back most of our our RFAs. Get Glass locked up to a medium-term deal. I’d also let Asplund walk - he does absolutely nothing for this team. I brought in Froden to be an effective 24th forward option, while also to give Milwaukee some more depth. Rueschoff was also brought back for depth for Milwaukee

The trade pick value is cool but theres no reason for the Flyers to move back.

I just notice you guys seem to be lacking in picks. I have heard about Briere wanting to get a “home run pick”, so I could see the reluctance to move back. However, right now I think your rebuild should really be putting a lot of stock in quantity. I think you’re more than 1 guy away from being that competitive team.

Sorry but nobody can convince me 15 and 24 are worth 7th in this draft. The guys available at 15 and 24 don’t even combine to be as good as the guy we will be able to draft at 7

15th overall+24th overall doesn't move you up 8 spots in a very deep draft. No reason for Philly to drop 8 spots in a deep draft for an extra 24th that won't have as much value.

We have like 20 guys that can play in our bottom 6 we need home run 1st line talent. The only way to do that is to draft as high as possible. Statistically the higher you are picked in the draft the more likely you are to become a star. I wouldn’t move out of the 10 for less than two 1st round picks which is obviously way too much which is why they should stay put. The only way I trade back is I trade back with Detroit for 9OA and 17OA.

I’m gonna preface this by saying that this may just be me showing ignorance. Looking through your prospect pool, I barely see anyone that excites me (Gauthier, Kaplan, Brink, and Tuomala are the only forwards prospects you guys have I think even have chance at the NHL). You do need that top-end guy, but I think you gotta flesh out the rest of the roster with solid picks before you do. Most of your highly-drafted guys have already graduated, so I think you gotta bring more in.

I don't think it'd be wise to go above the 4.3m level when dealing an OS to the Rangers for Laf, they'd have a hard time matching it as is.

Livingstone could be real good and Josi is a top 10 D in the league still but overall I find that D corps rather weak.
Could be a good idea to put some of that cap space towards making an upgrade on that front.

RHD is set in Seattle and Barrie not a fit. If Soucy doesn't return, Kraken have a LD hole to fill.

This is ignorance for sure. Most of our prospects are already on our roster. U named Samu who has been awful lol. York (top 4), Cates (middle 6), Tippett (top 6), Frost (middle 6) are all already in the NHL combined with Foerster (middle 6), Desnoyers (bottom 6), Kaplan (middle 6), Brink (middle 6), Avon (bottom 6), Lycksell (3rd liner), Andre (2nd pairing), Zamula (bottom pairing), Attard (bottom paring), Ersson (starter), Koslov (starter), Cutter (top line). Those are basically all of the valuations of our top prospects currently and as you can see it’s a lot 2nd-4th line players. Not many with top line projections. They need top line players and the best way to do that is to draft as high as possible. So like I said I would only move back is for 9th and 17th. Anything lower I would want two top 20 picks and an early 2nd, which Nashville can’t offer. We need a top line forward badly, not more middle 6 guys. Saying you think we only have 4 NHL prospects is pure ignorance considering I just named 6 that already played in the NHL for the Flyers this season lol.

The Flyers would probably trade players for picks over moving back for one extra pick.

- I was high on Samu coming out of his draft year, and hadn’t checked his stats since lmao. He’s awful
- I was really only talking forwards, since that’s what you’ll be taking with a top 10 pick.
- I don’t see it with Lycksell. I think he’s gone as far as he’s gonna go.
- A guy barely producing at ppg in the OHL in his draft+1 year isn’t all that confidence inspiring either. Avon seems like more of a long shot to me because of that.
- I was wrong on Desnoyer. He’s got the numbers - looks solid in highlights. I like his game.
- I also counted Forester as graduated because of his stellar NHL play this year.

I think you have a long term 1RW with Konecny, and you seem to be set on that RW. I think Gauthier is your clear cut future 1C, and I think Frost and Cates can work as future middle six guys. Your left wing and defense is where it gets iffy for me. I think various spots will open up there, so I think you’d be best served looking at stacking up prospects there. Some of the best D men in this draft would probably be available at 15, and you can find a good player to project as your future 2LW there too. A guy like Benson would be nice, but I don’t think they should pin everything on him

Regardless my point was made that they have plenty of guys that can cover the middle 6 and bottom 6 and UFAs fill those gaps for every team every year. Ur 100% correct when you say our LW and D core are lacking. But at the same time, the 2024 draft is supposed to be defense heavy like this draft is offense heavy. Next year we have our pick (likely top 10) and Florida’s pick (who knows where that will be lol but likely middle to late 1st) so we will have 2 shots at defenseman in the 1st round just next year alone so we absolutely just need to draft 7th this year unless we get a another 1st to move back a few spots but I’m not trading out of top 10 and only way I go back to 15 is for a giant overpay.
