Just because he signed the offer sheet to get the terms he wanted, doesn’t mean that he walks to Montreal.

I agree with that, but I also feel star players hitting UFA for the first time have a tendency to change locations if they have not won a cup yet.

Ok, I’ll bite on this argument. So say he does walk, why would he go to Montreal? After all, even if he went there, he wouldn’t even be likely to make the playoffs for about 5 years. At least in Carolina, he is on the verge of the cup. Frankly, I’d be willing to bet that the Canes win a cup within the next couple of years. I mean, they proved this year that they can go deep with depth alone, so a healthy roster likely wins the cup.

Besides, be looking for the extension to be announced this summer. Aho won’t be allowed to hit UFA status.

I'm thrilled if he resigns in Carolina, but if he hits the market I would expect the Habs to target him.

This is 1 year away. If the Habs have a big year and they bring over a player like PLD, there could be a feeling around the league that "something good is happening in Montreal" and that could lead to major Free Agent signings.

There is a Boston Bruins style take less money for the team thing emerging in Montreal now, and players who want to win understand that.

I've seen a lot of crazy trades/signings on this site. This is one of those scenarios where I don't believe it's entirely far fetched. Aho might be pipe dream, but it's not an impossibility. Canes might not want to give him that type of contract, Hughs might. As for PLD, that's a possible trade, but I don't think he takes that contract. Depending on his performance next season, he might want more than 8 on a long term deal.

I'm not sure MTL will trade Anderson unless Slafkosky shows that he's ready to use his size and skill. Anderson might not be a great player, but he does get goals. This line up would be an exciting one.

Surprised to see you think they'll take Reinbacher at 5. What makes you think this?

I think Smith/Carlsson will be gone, I think the risk with Michkov is too high (no influence on development, another small player, currently plays zero defense) and if they get PLD, there will be no room for a player like Leonard.

There have been speculations that a similar 8 year offer has already been floated with Aho and might be signed shortly after July 1st

As for PLD... If he's not open to a sub Nick Suzuki-style take less money for the team deal, his cost is too high because it does against the current team philosophy.

Aho can get paid more because he outperformed Suzuki, but PLD did not and therefore should not.

Dudon, Waddell, and RBA correctly see Aho as the face of the franchise... they'll suck it up and make sure Aho resigns in Carolina

WPG accepts. I was thinking Barron for PLD is fair. Don't really want Armia at this point in his career, but Anderson definitely suits the Jets.

but montreal went to the final and carolina has not...they are too cheap to spend the money like florida and vegas have done... always looking for deals like pacioretty and burns... and look what happens one hardly plays at all... they are in on tkachuk but too cheap to give what it takes to get him....And KK what AN overpay still doesnt look like a second line center to me.

Ah yes, Montreal went to the final. If it weren’t for Covid, and the divisions didn’t have to be realigned for a season, the Habs wouldn’t have even made the playoffs that year, let alone make the finals. Adding on to that, they were barely able to squeak into the playoffs in the weakest division that year. They also were quite over reliant on Price being unbeatable, much like how the Rangers fell with Lundkvist and Shesterkin, and the Panthers will fall with Bobrovsky.

As for your comments on the Tkachuk trade, would you have taken the package that ended up as the trade, or a package of Necas, 1st, and Morrow, and whatever else was in that package from the Canes? When the trade was made, the Flames took the package that had a winger who just put up 115 points. Is it now looking like a mistake, yes, but the Canes put the pieces out that could have gotten Tkachuk. Same thing with Meier, the pieces were there, but the GM chose the Devils package.

Really, more KK slander? Considering he is already a .5 PPG player while being elite defensively, signed long term on a contract that is already starting to look Really good, and is still improving. If you don’t want to admit that the Habs made a mistake, I don’t care. But you shouldn’t be slandering KK just because the Habs were stupid.
