Caps are stacked at D. They'll just take a 2024 1st.

The first two trades pretty heavily favour the Avs imo. Regardless of teams wanting to dump cap, those are still useful players. The third trade value wise favours the Caps, albeit most Caps fans on here don't want Girard, and arguably rightly so under the circumstances, as they are pretty much set at D.

unsure of the Granland deal as it wouldnt seem necessary but the other deals could be hidden gems. that second line potential could be extremely high and would be cap friendly.

all of the Caps RD are over 30 years old though. bring in another young guy with playoff experience could be feasible. again, im simply playing devils advocate.

Meh, Olofsson will probably wither fetch a 2nd or a 3rd so I don't think that favors the Avs too much.

After what I saw this season, I'd rather let Nieto walk and keep Malgin. Seems like he fit better and I would anticipate greater production next season if he has some stability around him. I'd take the Olofsson trade. Don't see Bo signing longer than 3 years unless it's a really big number. He can get a few years at $4M or maybe a bit higher and then sign his huge contract at age 24ish. He'd still have room for another sizeable deal at age 30ish, too.

I could’ve went with either Rodrigues or Granlund but I went with Granlund because the Avs can get a few picks for the dump, which I then used to flip for Olofsson with him retained.

Yeah, but Girard is left handed. Even though he can play the right, we are completely full on D regardless.

Is it possible that the Caps can move out a defenseman or is it pretty set in stone?

The caps could move someone but that would make the price go up mountains in my opinion

Sure they could play G at RD. I should have said I don't dislike the line up, it's pretty decent just how I felt on the trades.

A third in '25 gets beaten easily imo.

As a Sabres fan I hope so, but I have a feeling they are desperate to move him so it wouldn't surprise me.

Rumour is that E-Rod wants more though IIRC, but whilst I understand the attempt to get picks back with Granlund, the Avs could just use their own '25 3rd on Olofsson (if we're agreeing his value is that low). So there are potentially options there if E-Rod signed for that. I personally wouldn't bring Nieto back either myself. Keep Malgin or sign another cheap UFA.

I think everyone is sensing some desperation to move him, so his return won't be that great.

I just find it worrying that, even though we have all of our future firsts, we have an absolute barren amount of mid-round picks.

You should have went with ERod, but Pittsburgh will be glad to move Granlund.

We really can't afford to add another defenseman at 5M and also make the changes we need to make at forward imo. There was a time when I also toyed with the idea of Girard for Kuznetsov or something like that but we need forwards more than we need defensemen.

If the sabres are retaining salary then it should be a 2nd otherwise maybe a third. His only real value is on the PP.
