Talking myself into Hayes

Description
I am adamantly against trading for Hayes...so as a thought exercise, how would I do it if forced.

I looked at Manson (yes I know he has a NTC) and thought... would Torts ever love a big, rugged D-man like Manson (prob way more than Girard). Or, this could be a 3-teamer with Manson landing up somewhere else. Ultimately I am trading big and slower D for big and slower C.

I also want to add a lot of skating and toughness to the bottom 6. Acciari / Hathaway / Reese can all skate and PK. (would trade out Reese if Cogs wants to come back)

I like a $3-$4M D man as the 5th D-man. Lots of choices (Graves, Mayfield, etc) but I went with Soucy.

Time to put Newhook and Meyers at C and find out if they are fixtures or not.

And Hawks fans...the draft equity is equal and don't forget, you are not done tanking. You will be amazed at how McDermid will help with both sticking up for the kids and tanking your D-core.

We don’t need Manson for 3 more years. If you add in $4.5M and we retain $2M that’s $6.5M instead of Hayes’ $7.15M why would we do this lol

Hawks would make that trade if they haven't already used one or both of those picks to move up from #19 in the 1st round.

Flyers fans seem to want to move on from Hayes and move him to the Avs. I don't want to make this trade, but was trying to come up with a way to make it work. I would suspect in a trade like this, they would be able to flip Manson pretty easily to a D-hungy team.

If they are able to flip Manson easily why wouldn’t the Avs do that in a separate deal? Doesn’t make sense to me why the Flyers have to flip the player when the Avs can just do so

Agree, but there are plenty of trade chips on the board to do both. Still left with 2 2nds and 2 3rds both this and next year. I think if the Hawks want/need additional 2nds this or next draft, they probably have frameworks of deals on the table for dumps...Bailey, Mantha, Murray, etc.

I'll be disappointed (I know real world problems I have) if we do not grab an additional first round pick in the 20's (NYR, COL, VGK, BOS (via TOR) and upgrade the #19

I'd like to see KD use #19 and 3 of the 4 2nd's to get #11 and #14. I still think that's a real possibility. I wouldn't trade either of the '24 2nd's unless we have a 3rd one in our poccesion already at the draft. Bird in the hand... I'm not that confident in any of the 3 trades you referenced.

If one of the '24 2nds gets us into the 1st this year....I am all in....as a wise man said "bird in hand". I would be hesitant to use our own as it will likely be one of the first in the round and a defacto late 1st (but if value in a trade is appropriate....even that is on the table for me).
Bailey with a 2nd to the Hawks is a match made in heaven and there simply are not THAT many teams that can take 5 million in cap.

I hear you. My reasoning would be that I would see Philly flipping for futures and Avs are definitely not moving player for futures, which is why I wouldn't the Avs trading Manso without a 2C coming back.

I've thought about a Chi / Col trade for weeks. Even if that Avs don't flip the two 2nd's, they need ALL the chips they can get. If Colorado is not using the 1st for a player, this type of trade makes a TON of sense.

As an Avs fan this is terrible. especially considering where the OA picks stand. Sakic would tell McF to hang up the phone.

It was an exercise. As I stated, I don't particularly want Hayes, but if the 2C carousel stops and the Avs find themselves without on, Hayes becomes an option.
