Carter Hart Trade Possibility

Created by: NotDougWilson
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2023
Published: Jun. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Interesting rumor from Jeff Marek that the Sharks could be interested in Carter Hart. Do I think it happens? NO. Sharks are not in a position to trade assets for a starting goaltender when they need to clean up their backend by adding new prospects to the mix and find cap flexibility.

Briere wants to move in the draft and this is the only way i could see the sharks willing to have that conversation with Philly. I'm sure both Philly and Sharks fans will disagree that we're good trading partners here.

Essentially swapping SJS Picks: #4, #26 for PHI's #7 & #22. Sharks would get rid of Labanc & Simek's contracts and get the cap flexibility they need and provide Ozzy Weisblatt (former 1st rounder as incentive) who plays a hard nose game. The other possibility is to keep this year's #26 and provide NJD's 2nd that can turn into 1st if they make the ECF.
Trades
SJS
  1. Hart, Carter
  2. Kaplan, Devin [Reserve List]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
  4. 2023 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Adding Kaplan strictly because Grier LOVES players/coaches/staff from BU.
PHI
  1. Labanc, Kevin
  2. Simek, Radim
  3. Wiesblatt, Ozzy
  4. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
  5. 2023 1st round pick (SJS)

Would rather keep everything. Not a fan of anything we get back other than the 4th pick and it’s too much to give up to just move up 3 spots

So Flyers trade from 7 and 22 to 4 and 26 (in a draft where 3-10 is pretty much a crap shoot) and swap prospects? Ummmmm maybe remove everything the Flyers send back other than Hart and you have a deal lol

Honestly just don’t think Hart is right for the Sharks right now. Sharks will have to give up way too much for a really big question mark.

It’s closer than this offer.
Hart, a prospect downgrade (love Ozzy, but Kap seems more complete) a downgrade in late first, take on a buyout, all to move up 3 spots is hysterical.

I don’t even know if I’d give up a 2nd in this draft to move anywhere between 3-10 since they all seem so skilled.

Yep, like I said there's no reason for these two teams to be trading partners. Grier has mentioned it would take a significant offer for him to consider trading the #4 pick.

Grier has gone on to say that it would take a considerate offer to move the #4 pick. We're not good trading partners since the Flyers want 2 1st round picks and we won't have the cap pay Hart his big boy bucks. That's all on merit that he plays to the level he was at pre-COVID

Any scenario including the sharks moving 4th overall for Carter Hart is completely ridiculous and a massive, massive overpayment. Get real people.

His last two years were very solid.

.905 & .907 doesn't scream "very solid" to me. He was .914 & .917 before that awful .877 2020-2021 season.

The offer above is not 4 for Hart
It’s 4, 26 and a decent prospect for 7, 22, a better prospect and a goalie lol

Hart’s value is very high…not as high as all this, but a first, 2nd, and high prospect is probably the base for Hart that all teams will meet trying to win the Hart lotto.

I know these deals won’t happen lol, just letting you guys know the value

On a team that had that many turnovers and breakaways, with massive amounts of injuries to all our best 2-way guys… it’s very solid lol

That’s fair. Also looked it up average gs% this year was a 0.905 so you weren’t too far off. Funny enough, Friedman just went on TSN and said that he’s been told to “cool off” on the Carter Hart trade rumors. Someone must’ve said something to him.

So essentially more than Debrincat and Timo.

Again get real on the value.

Always depends on the market. If you have 8 teams knocking down your door asking about a player where there is not many options available, the value is high.

Hart is definitely more valuable than Prov… so yeah, his return will mirror that

Prov was overpaid for. If Hart is even moved, and gets a better return than SJ got for Meier then I will eat my words but don’t count on it. He hasnt proven anything in this league and goalies are far too mercurial to spend high end assets on in the first place.

Prov was a decent player, but a first, 2 2nds and a good prospect is def high… I think taking the cap dump played into that

Meier got technically got a pair of firsts, pair of 2nd and a 3rd since three of those prospects went in recent draft rounds 1, 2 and 3. So probably won’t beat that lol
