That's a price the Avs can't really say "no" to but I can't imagine Philly would be okay retaining that much for that long. They might have to send those picks to another team (or two) to get additional retention but I'm not sure any team has ever retained for that long on a contract.

before this week, I would agree. but the flyers just took on cal peterson, so it seems like they are fine tanking for a while

Philly isn't swinging on a possible late 1st for four years of Campbell's god awful contract. Petersen's was taken because it has 2 years left, we don't need one that's double the time.

Arizona is the only other team that I know of that retained money for more then 1 year and I think they did it for 4 years for OEL. If its done at the trade deadline, its only a little over 2 years and if they retain less and a 3rd team is entered to retain money as well, Col sends the draft pick. If the goal is to just get rid of Hayes to make room for a younger player, then the return is as much as I expect. If they want to maximize the return, they offer to retain 50% and see if they can get a bidding war going.

Yeah. After the Provorov trade. I dont think anything is "off the table" anymore. Briere sounds like he wants to do a complete tear down and rebuild. Which to me sounds like load up on picks for the next couple years and shoot to be competitive in about 5 years when the picks start developing.

What? The first would be next year, not in 4 years.

No, I mean four years of Jack Campbell's contract. We would have to take on four years of Campbell for a possible 1st next year.

AZ retained 1 mil of 8.2 mil for 6 yrs to dump OEL - best 1mil they spent

Uh no. What's that end up being? Pick 39 in a good draft, for pick 100 in the same draft and probably pick 60 in next years? Pretty hard pass.

I just figured getting the contract off the books would be valuable when drafting lots. But only if the cost is a very late round pick swap type of thing. You are right though.

Thats fair. Didnt really think about the actual draft position. Would probably have to add something to sweeten the deal.

There is nothing of value in the EDM deal. Holloway is a good prospect but Campbell literally makes that entire trade negative value and when give up Hart and Zamula in the process. Hayes returns basically nothing when we make him a $3.5M player?
