PHI would have to pay CHI to take that Hayes contract. This past season was his best in years, and he still significantly underperformed in comparison to his contract. He is overpaid by $2 to 4 million. Not only that, but he also bailed on CHI after they drafted him in the first round. Why would CHI pay to acquire him when he did that to them? He was certainly well within his rights to sign elsewhere out of college, but he still burned that bridge.

Let me get this straight - Leafs have to pay a 1st to dump Murray; a goalie with injury history but who played well in 26 games last year + 1 year left in his deal. Flyers get paid to dump two guys coming off major career threatening injuries with multiple years left on their deals. Ellis hasn’t played in 2 years & Atkinson had major surgery at Xmas.
