I think that's a good use of assets.

That 3rd line would be electric.

It would be interesting to see if Ryan Johnson earns a spot after camp to fulfill that 3rd LD

Why would the Canes consider moving Pesce? And how is that considered selling high? Either which way, Canes pass.

I mean, I put a reasoning in the trade description like 1 millimeter from his name.

Trading the 13th OA pick, a 2nd, a 28 goal scorer making under 2.4 million and a rhd making under 1.7 million seems pretty good for a pending ufa defensive defensemen. You are gonna sign him AND aho AND necas AND Jarvis AND skjei AND teravainen while also filling out the rest of your roster and leaving room to pay slavin and replace burns the year after while also paying a goalie?

I love me some Brett Pesce, but he’s not a 6.75m player. I saw the Severson comparison, but Columbus is a desperate team that just overpaid.

I could see the Canes moving on from Pesce if they think that is what he’s looking for (same for Skjei), but my guess is he’d take 5.5-6.0. Cernak from TB is a much better comparable at 5.2m long term.

The 13OA pick is the only thing of actual value to the Canes in your proposal. Lyubushkin is a 3rd pairing dman, who can play limited 2nd pair minutes when desperate. Not a good enough stop gap. Olofsson scored 28 goals in a completely offensive system in Buffalo. He would have a hard time even hitting 20 goals in a defense first system in Carolina, where he really wouldn’t fit with his lack of defensive awareness. So again, how are the Canes selling high in this scenario? Teravainen is likely walking anyway, if he isn’t traded beforehand. They have the cap space to sign all the key guys that are up next year, and fill out the roster accordingly.

If they could get all that for Pesce, you take it. That’s a friggin haul. 13OA alone would almost be enough for me.
