That first trade is brutal for the Canucks. They aren’t retaining 2.25M for 7 years. If they did they would get a much better return than Hanifin, especially if they were adding Podkolzin

My guy wants to watch the Canucks get worse now, gain no significant futures, AND stay in cap hell. OOF.

Give us a third round pick + maybe a 6th/7th we’ll take on Myers cap hit after you pay his signing bonus (if we have cap space). You can have Blackwood for a 6th/7th round pick (you could use some goalie depth after last season).

Btw, you’re not getting Nate Bastian. He’s arguably our best defensive forward and is one of those guys that are great in Jersey and only in Jersey.

No matter what, Myers is a negative asset. If alone we were just getting the 3rd, it's not enough to take on Myers, even with retention. He's not very good, the Devils would be better off spending the balance of his salary on many other players.

This is still a terrible idea. Tyler Myers is unambiguously one of the worst contracts in the NHL and would be a complete liability no matter how sheltered or easy matchups he gets.
Walsh and Nemec both are undoubtedly better NHLers than Tyler Myers at this point in time.
Trading for Tyler Myers achieves nothing other than setting 6m of cap space on fire.
