A complex, and obviously unlikely scenario, but one that could be similar to a plan for Drury.
Goodrow has a no team trade list, and I am assuming Detroit is not on that list as he is familiar with Yzerman. If not Detroit, it does not really matter because one of this teams would likely take him. Possibly even Seattle. Detroit is the best choice as they need to add cap.
The key to this proposal is Patrick Kane going on the LTIR. He will be out from four to six months. That means that the Rangers need cost effective additions.
First, the returning players. Laffy and Miller will be offered a one year low cap deal. It is not a bridge deal, but buying a one year at low cost without both RFAs having any leverage over negotiations.
Rittich comes in as an average goalie, but will fill the need to back up some games for Shesterkin.
Bringing in a big vet like Lewis is key. A hardworking and experienced player that is perfect for the 4th line, and brings much needed size. Brassard makes makes his second return to the Rangers. He is still a good skater, and has found his role as a bottom six forward.
The key addition is Kiviranta. A solid overall player, not flashy, lacks consistent offensive abilities, but adds good depth as a smart two-way forward who can play any position and in any situation. He looked great in the playoffs and would bring solid hockey.
The Rangers are weak on the Right Wing, strong at Center, and solid on Left Wing. Defense is a bit questionable, but should survive the regular season with a strong group of forwards and Shesterkin in goal. At the trade deadline, the Rangers will likely need to add a defenseman.
The point of this team, now under Laviolette, is to make the playoffs regardless what seeding, and make the playoff push.
Detroit doesn’t need to add cap to get to the floor. RFAs and UFAs will get there, if not for a big trade.
This move helps NYR with cap space, and doesn’t give the Wings anything better then what is available in free agency.
Why overpay free agency when you get a player you know from Tampa to fulfill a checking role? Not that it matters much for this scenario as I said Goodrow would be traded to whatever team.

Depends on what SY is looking for. Trading for Goody is honestly the same thing, just without losing the 4th. He is a decent bottom 6 player, but the knock is that he is overpaid. I would imagine a surprise team trades for him as their form of "overpaying a free agent." I will add though the fact he is known from TB is a good point. Adam Erne 2.0 lol
