I seriously doubt Vegas has the cap space for Debrincat unless Lehner either goes the other way too, or is LTIRetired.

When I first saw this my instinct was...
"Vegas isn't trading Reilly Smith"

Then I remembered it's Vegas, and who bloody knows what they'll do.

I thought Lehner had hip surgery or something serious

He did, at the end of last season over a year ago. He is supposed to be rehabbing in Sweden.

I'd rather have a 2023 first (which the Flyers have already turned down for Laughton) than a 2024 first and Brannstrom. Not only is the 2024 pick an extra year down the road but with the strength of the 2023 draft it is so much more valuable than a 2024 1st. Not only that, Brannstrom hasn't lived up to the potential and doesn't play ahead of Sanheim or York on the left side so adding him isn't that great for the Flyers.

Even if you discount the 2024 pick back a year (10% discount rate), it's still worth about the same in value. Think this is a pretty fair deal for Laughton

Value is relative. The 2023 draft is the best in years and much better than 2024. A 2023 first has significantly higher than a 2024.

I mean how much more value are you realistically getting? The only realistic draft picks in play are going to be 27 and 28, which are worth 287 averaged (per Schuckers). Let's assume that OTT makes the playoffs next year but loses in the first round. The median value of picks 17-28 (teams that do not make conference finals) is 320. If you discount this pick back by 10%, the value becomes 290, which is roughly equal to the value of the pick in 2023.

Even with a deep draft, let's assume that whatever player available at 27 would be taken at 20 in a normally distributed draft year. The difference between pick 20 and 27/28 is worth approximately a 6th rounder. Brannstrom is certainty worth more than that so the only value difference would be if the Flyers extremely value the opportunity cost of picking 7 spots ahead.

You are underselling the quality of this years draft in leiu of a numbers chart that doesnt account for nuance.

Vegas just won the cup thought you wouldn't want the 32nd overall pick over a 2024 pick

if lindholm and hanifan are gone you are tanking unless markstrom returns to vezina form or Dustin Wolf is cary price

In theory sure. But then why would Calgary want a player that improves their team?

To fill out the roster and to bet on Joseph bouncing back in a top 6 role which he wasn't going to get in Ottawa

Would rather just take a 3rd and one of your extra RD that aren't waiver exempt anymore

I included the narrative with the numbers. I'd say a fair value for Brannstrom is a 3rd round pick. The median value of a 3rd rounder is 154. When you add that to the discounted median value of a playoff-team pick that didn't reach the conference finals, the total value is 444. The Flyers would have to believe that a player normally available at 14 or 15 in any other draft year would have to be available at 27 for the value to be fair. Or they really believe OTT will contend next year the pick value will decrease. I think it's a plenty fair deal for Laughton

OTT i never going to trade a 1st+ for a career 3rd liner who is 29, any Gm who offers a first that is not top 25 protected for Laughton, Scott should be fired immediately
