This is different and I like it. Curious as to what pred fans have to say about it. Are they in a position to hold that much salary?

We have more than enough space to make this work. However, NSH is notorious for not retaining on anyone. I wonder if that’ll change under Trotz though.

I’d be looking at getting a decent piece back for him here though. I proposed trading the 2023 BOS 1st for McDonagh (retained) and a 2nd a few week ago. I wonder if something similar could work here

They have the cap. But yes, I'm not sure if they are willing to eat those dollars. He is owed 16m over 2 years. This would bring that down to 7m over 2 years and they can find a replacement in the short term in FA for less dollars than they would have had to pay Johansen including the retention.

The big question I guess is where is that team headed and are they willing to move a big piece of their team who has 2 years left for future pieces.

2023 BOS 1st + Fraser Minten? or Leafs move back in the draft and offer 2024 TOR 1st + 2023 2nd?

If you see my above comment regarding the real dollars over the next 2 years do you think that could sway NSH to take on some of the money?

I think trotz will be willing to move johansen (he has pretty much said as much in an interview about his days in nashville possibly being numbered) which realistically will probably require retention. Not sure how much the ownership group would be willing to eat. Probably depends on if they view the return as worthwhile.

I think either of those would do it. I think I would lean more toward the BOS 2023 1st and Minten personally.
