The Problem is the aging core and NMC. This post doesn't seem to see it. The kids where rolling and the team was playing better as a team before Vlady and Kane trades. For me this is horrible hockey trades with zero forward thinking in my opinion.

no there's forward thinking... if kakko, lafreniere, Othmann, schneider, miller, and even Igor have tremendous seasons, how are we paying them in the coming years? The cap is going up but there won't be enough room for all of them. This team is in the thick of it to win the cup and this could be the piece that brings toughness into the top6/top9. Why do you think there isn't any forward thinking? Just because I traded laf who mind you the rangers probably can't afford and not what the team needs right now in the sense that he lacks toughness and is very lackluster and invisible when he goes on stretches with 0 points?

As a Habs fan, I would love Laffy on the team but retaining 50% of Anderson's contract for the next 5 years.. no thanks

They are not in the thick of it. And next year both Trouba and Kreider goes from NMC to modified trade clause. We will have a average year this year no matter what we do. And only 3 more years of Panarin's horrible contract. This is possible to navigate but we need to stop adding veterans with term. What we can hope for is last year of Shesterkin contract we can be good enough to convince him to stay.
With the lineup you presented I see further decline once shesty contract ends. And it will be that much harder to keep him. But this is just what I think, you see it differently. Drury is the boss thou and we will see what happens.

Also, I rather sign Fast over trading for Anderson. Fast is proven player to play with Panarin. And Anderson does tend to be injured a lot and we don't know who he might be able to play with.

CHI accepts. But those are both overpays, ESPECIALLY the MTL trade. MTL should be sending Anderson with retention and that first for Lafreniere, and even then I would still be very hesitant. Anderson is a borderline cap dump candidate.

That's a ridiculous overpay for someone who's had less points than Laf in the past 2 seasons WITH more ice time and opportunity.
