Yegor for rental dman

Created by: NHLfan10506

Description
Our GM has a “type” of dman. He has been consistent and clear. Big and mobile. Can possess and distribute.

2021: “It starts with adding long, mobile defensemen”[who can] “move the puck efficiently”

2022: “What don’t you like about a right-shot, puck-moving, skating, big, mobile defenseman?”

A quote from today: “I do believe in the big, mobile defensemen who can move pucks, take your time and space away.”

With the loss of Severson, likely Graves, and the trade of Mukhamadullin (all guys he had described as “long, mobile puck movers”), I wonder if he isn’t using Sharangovich to acquire another dman. I am mostly brain-storming here about who could possibly fit his mold of dman, actually be available, and on team that could use Sharangovich over the long-term. Bonus would be a good mentor and d-partner for Luke Hughes (who can play either side). Intended to be wide range of names here…so don’t assume each at intended to be equal trades.

And their are no offers yet to reject, so don’t bother.
…but do answer this: Who fits? Who am I missing?

Myers cost you a 7. No one can seem to coach the stupid out of him.

I don’t suspect the Kings would make Roy available, simply due to him being the defensive backbone of the top 4, as well as the lack of experience on the right side.

But to entertain the idea that he is, it depends on how cheap Sharangovich would sign. If he signs for ~2M I could see something around Sharangovich, Bahl and a pick? I’m not too familiar with Bahl, or whether he’d be available, but the Kings could use someone like him long term.

Hanafin is definitely the most interesting of these.

Tanev probably the best.

Maybe Brodie? Maybe Grezlcyk?

I like ‘em outside of Leddy.

Seattle probably wouldn't entertain trading Schultz unless they brought in someone to upgrade his position, both on the right side of the defense and on the power play. Someone like Erik Karlsson, for example. If that was the case, a Schultz for Sharangovich swap might work for both sides; Seattle has a lot of wing depth already, but Sharangovich could replace Sprong as a depth scorer if the Kraken decide to sell high on the latter. Ultimately, I think Schultz's availability and Seattle's level of interest in Sharangovich would depend on multiple outside factors, and a lot of things would have to happen before a swap of those two makes sense for the Kraken.

If you can convince Seattle that Sharangovich is a 2C, you *might* get that done, but that also assumes Evans is NHL ready and Wright takes another year or two, so that Seattle can give him a prove it deal and flip Wennberg for assets. Also, I think Hanifin, Roy, and Tanev would cost more, and if you swing for Petry and Leddy, there's better uses of your cap and Sharangovich's RFA rights than overpriced rentals. If your looking for a rental D man to pick off, look for Boston trying to shed cap through its D core, and if they can't sign Yegor, just flip him for picks to a team looking to add project wingers, Dallas and Colorado seem like potential suiters

Probably not. Fitzgerald won’t rush him and values his slide year.

Our GM basically committed top-4 minutes to Bahl recently when he said he would be moving into Graves spot. And we are trying to add a dman since we are losing two of our six (Severson, Graves).

Last year
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Graves - Severson
Bahl - Marino

Next year
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Bahl - Marino
Hughes - TBD or TBD - Hughes

I have looked…nothing fits

Boston wouldn’t deal McAvoy or Lindholm
Clifton and Orlov are free agents
Devils wouldn’t want Carlo
Grz doesn’t fit our needs
And Forbort and Rielly could be had for less

I like Leddy if he were a one-year rental. Don’t think the term makes sense here. Unless it were a means to an end (ie, it gets another piece in deal).

Brodie I have used in some of these but Leafs fans can be such a pain, so I purposely left him off.

I think Hanifin fits our system well. And there is a connection between him and our GM.

My only concern with Hanafin is that I think he’s be expensive relative to the other rental options

Not that he is unavailable. Just that we are losing two dmen already….can’t lose a third unless we are adding other dmen (so net +).

Lebrun said the other day that Hanifin will not be signing in Calgary. And he had a down year, so he may want to force a move to a contender to build his stock before he hits UFA.

Sure but I think he’d be more expensive to acquire because Calgary doesn’t have cap issue and Hanafin has pedigree and age on his side, relative to the field
