Playoffs 2324

Description
I think these moves are enough to turn them into a playoff team. Offence lacks depth, but they have a fair amount of prospects coming through that should l help with that. I don't know a ton about CBJ's prospects so I had to look up some stuff, but I believe these seem fair. SJ gets 2 first rounders, and 3 good prospects. Preds get similar deal for Saros and for taking back Elvis. CBJ has Gaudreau and Laine, so they need to aim to compete sooner rather than later.

Fun new idea that's not the same 2-3 (rightfully) regurgitated things we always see on here for CBJ, but I think there's some issues.

Biggest issue is that by giving away 3rd ovr and not getting a center back in the deal, you're basically banking on Kent Johnson HAVING to develop into a top line center in the next year or 2. Maybe that happens, but as things stand right now, it's looking like they may have him as a winger moving forward. As the team stands right now, This center depth is just not good enough, both now and for the future unless you get a 1C out of KJ. So...that being said, I don't think the Karlsson deal makes much sense for the team. Adding onto that point, Jiricek is on his way and they've already signed Severson. Possibly as soon as this year, but definitely by next you have at least a solid, if not good top 4 blue line. There's simply not a need for Karlsson considering Jiricek and the excess of RD they have currently. The value of the trade is hard to add up since you have the Gru contract going back, a ton of retention for 4 years, and all the pieces, but I'm inclined to say it's a bit rich to give up 3rd ovr + 2 more firsts (Ceulemans was 25th in '21) for Karlsson, even with the massive retention .

The Saros trade, I would say that yeah, that's probably about fair value when you add everything up (possibly a bit short), but if you're a team moving a player of his level you need a better top piece in a package than a 1st that's a year out (and is probably in the 12-22 range). I'm not familiar enough with Nashville's prospect pool to know what specifically they may want, but that's definitely gotta have a better main piece in the package for it to happen. That being said though, I do REALLY like the idea of a Saros trade, should Nashville decide to explore a trade for him (though I think it may take some convincing to get them to take the Elvis deal back.

Bertuzzi will cost a bit more per year, but you can fit that deal in by not signing Cole (who I think is redundant and I'd rather have Bean or a non traded Blankenburg in there anyway tbh). Team doesn't necessarily need a signing like that, but I wouldn't complain if it did happen.

Without an upgrade at center, I still seriously doubt they can make the postseason. Especially in that division.

This is probably close for Saros. My issue is the pieces in return. NSH doesn't need Christensen or Svozil as defense isn't really an issue and Foudy isn't really an upgrade to Sissons, and NSH already has plenty of guys like that.

I'd be fine pulling some of the picks out if the deal looked something more like 2023 2nd, 2024 1st, Sillinger/Luca, Elvis, and Mateychuck.

Not a chance in the world the jackets do that. That’s a trade package that gets you Austin Matthews. Huge overpay for a goalie when they are going to give Elvis another chance to bounce back behind an improved defense

Luca, Elvis, 2024 1st & 2023 2nd with 1mil retention on Elvis? I'll throw NSH's 2023 2nd on top of Saros.

Sharks do that, and still do it if you keep a couple of those assets, as long as the 2 1sts stay in. 3oa is worth a lot of retention.

That’s fair value but I don’t see the jackets selling low on Elvis. He was playing behind at times 5 rookie defenseman who had no business being in the NHL last year. They will give him another year to see if he bounces back. If not they can trade him away. When korpi got moved he looked so much better for the Kings because he was playing behind a better defense
