Throwing this out there to see what Avs & Flames fans think about the general concept (apologies if this has already been suggested/discussed).

Toews is almost a full year older that Lindholm. Both play prominent positions. Both are in contract years during the prime of their careers, making similar money now.

My initial thought is that this benefits Colorado more from a position-of-need standpoint; trading from a position of strength (D) to fill a big hole (2C). If Lindholm does NOT want to resign in Calgary, then there’s obviously incentive for the Flames to make this type of deal. Toews is from western Canada, so maybe that is an extra motivator for him to sign an extension with Calgary.

So Calgary trades a position of weakness for a position of strength?

It may fit a need for Colorado but not sure it does for Calgary so Calgary probably declines. IF Lindholm wants out then obviously they're best taking the best return (regardless of needs) that they can get but would that necessarily be Toews 1 for 1? I'd think they get better offers. On top of that I don't see the Avs being keen to move out Toews anyway unless he indicates he won't extend or contract negotiations are too far apart.

So Calgary ends up with zero 1st line centers and 7 defensemen all capable of playing top 4? Yeah lol no chance. Toews is a great player but not at all a need for the Flames who have had one of the best d-cores in the league for a few years now

Avs' puck-moving D is not just a position of strength, but the entire philosophy of their play. Toews is insanely good, the Avs shouldn't be moving him for less than a miracle deal. There are just not similar replacements that the Avs could have.

And, the Avs have an entire season to figure out Toews' contract really. They get to watch Landeskog's rehab and make a bet when they see how that is going, or splashy TDL move if it's a complete stall. Idk why they'd move one of their best players when a 2C could be had for less., although they would def not as good as Lindholm.

Lindhold probably should just extend with Calgary anyway. I would if I were him. Get the bag

Doesn’t make sense at all for the flames, but a toews-weegar paring would be sick to watch. The two biggest analytical darling defencemen of the past decade.
