Dont think this gets you Connor and Ehlers. Jarvis looks good and Pesce needs to be extended, but I think you are missing quite some value here.

It's not crazy to think that this is what will happen with Pesce. If the Canes don't feel like the extension number is good for their team, Pesce's group is likely to find another franchise willing to pay it. I would think that a team like Winnipeg would especially be willing to pay top dollar, since big name players rarely choose to play in Winnipeg for various reasons.

Really? a I really can't think of a time it's happened, when a player who is under contract for a full year, is given permission to negotiate with another team for his next contract. The silliness is that the Cup contending Canes tell a key player to "Hurry up and sign an extension so we can trade you. Of course if you can't come to an agreement, you are welcome back as Cane." No, it's crazy. Even crazier is for the Jets to sign a Dman who will be almost 30 years of age when the eight year contract starts.

It is almost exactly what happened, note for note, with Justin Faulk three seasons ago. The Canes gave permission for Faulk and his team to negotiate an extension with interested teams. The Ducks, the Blues, and an undisclosed third team agreed to terms on an identical contract, but the Ducks backed away at the last minute because of disagreements regarding the conditional picks related to Kase's concussions, leading the Blues to acquire Faulk in a trade-and-sign. The Pesce negotiations are likely to reach the same conclusion if the Canes don't extend themselves.

I know we can say on here that guys will extend but in all likelihood Pesce and Teravainen wouldn't especially Pesce, also in this swap the Jets are trading two guys who were willing to stay and sign long term with them, not sure if it's the best move for the organization to trade them but can see the value in this trade for both teams.

Kudos for proposing something different, better then another Duchois trade ffs! 🤣

You may right about Faulk....a one time incident four years ago. But the the return one Faulk was a lot less than what you expect from the Jets....their two best wingers Plus a can't see Peace being great trade value when he next contract starts at almost the age of 30. Plus the fact that New York State native Pesce probably has no desire to play in Winnipeg.

Half of the Jets are actively being shopped and you pick none of them. Brilliant. The Jets don't even have time to discuss these players. Besides, if we're selling everything then I want to see multiple firsts coming back before we even talk.

I have a feeling that Winnipeg is going to do a full-blown overhaul very soon, though I might be wrong. Also, Seth Jarvis is a far more valuable asset than the kinds of 28-32nd overall firsts that we own. Jarvis alone would return a high 1st+ from a team.

There's a huge difference between the Faulk trade and this proposal: Seth Jarvis and Philly's (very high) 2nd. In fact, the whole reason why I wrote this trade is because I thought that the Jets would covet Jarvis enough to give up their actually-premium trade pieces for. Canes don't have a real need for Dubois with Kotkaniemi developing well, but we do have a need for the skillsets that Connor and Ehlers provide, especially Connor.

You might be wrong.

Yes, Seth Jarvis is an amazing young player. He might have a 20 goal season one day. He isn't signed, and Connor has had a 44 goal season on a sweet deal. He's worth 3 firsts by himself.

Signing Pesce for 8 years is a mistake, and signing Teravainin for 4X5.5 is another one. That's just asking for cap trouble in a few years

I think that Jarvis is well capable of one day being a 30 goal scorer, though I see him as more like a rich man's Ehlers than a Connor-type. Because of the difficulties that I know Winnipeg has with UFAs, I sort of wrote that proposal as an on-purpose overpay to finally secure that top-pairing right-handed defenseman that I'm sure the Winnipeg brass has long coveted. On that contract, Pesce will at least give 4 seasons of great defensive play for any team that he plays for.

Creating a bad contract on purpose is one of the dumbest moves a GM could make. The Jets could just take on an existing bad contract if they want to do that and save the assets. The whole point of a sign and trade is for cost certainty, but that doesn't mean certainty of a terrible deal. The Jets don't even need a defenseman. Pesce is a great player, but not if they are trading assets for a deal that you INTENDED TO BE BAD. ffs
