Full defense facelift

Created by: jwg314
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023
Published: Jun. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not very realistic that DA gets this aggressive, but this would be a very tough team to play against with solid production on all units. Perunovich and Hanifin (maybe Parayko?) could hold down the PP units.

  1. 2023 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
ANA spots someone they like at #29 and take on Scandella to get it done. At 50% retained, a player like him that can be tough and play PK will be highly sought after at the TDL, so that's just free value.

If Frederic only signs for 2m, then Boston probably re-signs him.

I'd sign him for as much as $3M personally. $2M is on the low end.

Heh, sorry, I saw the trade was for a TOR pick and thought this was a TOR build where the trade would be in-division and they will not have much cap flexibility. Anyway, if he would require 3x3m then the B's would be in a tougher spot, and they might accept.

Nah gotta be more than 4 spots to take on over $3M in basically dead cap. Even if healthy he becomes a scratch. Can use other assets to move up or lesser assets to acquire a usable cap casualty.

Might be nit picky, but I’d rather keep the first and Scandella than sign Schenn. I don’t think having Scandella as 3rd line RD is bad at all.

I mean it's just moving down like what, 5 spots? Most of our ACGMs are dumping Scandella with a 3rd/4th attached, so this would be most ideal. High-end prospects always slip to early 2nd round, especially this year. Schenn has looked pretty solid lately, and would love to get the brothers together.

Valid points. I just figured Anaheim fans would say no

Honestly, I want Mayfield as my 1 target and keep Power on his strong left side. I also think Buffalo can offer more $$.

That's perfectly fair. I think Faulk would be a perfect fit for you guys alongside Power, and Mayfield is an STL native, so he may be more inclined to finish off his career in STL. Not all players care much for that though, so I guess we'll see.

Not entirely wrong. I myself have dumped him with a pick attached previously, but like I said, Scandella is a super easy flip for you guys at the TDL with retention, so if you guys see someone available at #29, I don't think it's too far-fetched. He's still a reliable depth guy and you have plenty of cap space.

He’s not. The guy had major hip surgery. He has to perform to be flipped for anything. Ducks tried with Klingberg and that didn’t really work out. Plus all of the depth guys the ducks already have are LHD.

Nah

Yes. Players like Frederic bring more than their actual value based on their level of play (see Jeannot and some other 3rd liners). Frederic is only 25yo and can play multiple positions. You don't give him for a late 2nd, that's not enough and poor asset management.
