Going through every team 1 of 32

Created by: KDev
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023
Published: Jun. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The plan: stay the course.
I think the ducks are heading in the right direction but are still at least a year off from really turning the corner. Use this last year to help get some more kids acclimated to the system, primarily Fantilli. While they are a year off at least, I think they do need to address their RD.

Strengths: center depth, prospect pool, cap flexibility
Weaknesses: RD, LD, Goal scorers (prospects in the system can fix these issues if they hit)

I don’t seen many tradable assets the Ducks should move. Henrique is the big one but I think moving him to land Pesce is a big move for them.
I doubt Silfverberg has much value and the rest of the roster I think should be filled with hired guns in UFA. Lastly there’s definitely a lot of chatter around Gibson. I’d keep him at least for this coming year. I can’t help but feel with the addition of Pesce to the blue line, the Dcore looks way better and could actually help Gibson, something he hasn’t had in 3 straight seasons. Not to mention Dostal needs time as the official backup and if Gibson were to be traded he would have to be replaced. Keep him for the year and hope the defense can help him get his numbers back to a respectable place.

Prediction: 7th in the Pacific

Anaheim fans let me know your thoughts, this took more research and planning than I was expecting haha

Additional Details:
After July 1st. Pesce agrees on massive extension 8x6.25 (Sevo comp)

Anaheim gives up a huge team leader in Henrique which hurts but it seems like he’s been being shopped since last TDL. They give up their 4th or 5th best LD prospects and a couple of picks they won’t miss in order to add a huge addition to their blue line

Bruins would be dumb to send their first pick in the 2023 draft and a 2024 fourth rounder for a 1 year cap dump that alone is not enough for cap compliance. They would buy him out long before doing that.

No thanks. Henrique isn’t slotting over KK, while he’s a decent add that’s not the move the Canes make with Pesce if they can’t extend him.

No way the B´s give up two picks to get rid of a guy that costs them almost nothing to buy out!!! We are not talking OEL here!!!

Since the Canes are in win mode, they keep Pesce. I don't know what the "new obsession" is why CF contributors. Seems like every trade for a upcoming UFA (a year away) HAS to include an extension.
This rarely happens in the real NHL, as it would allow a player to negotiate with a another team even though the player is a year away from being a UFA.
IMO, it's not wise to sign Pesce to an eight year deal which will start when he is nearly 30 years of age. Severson as a comparison? Yeah that probably wasn't wise either by CBJ.

Your Holl signing. I've liked Holl for years and has been a good value player. But his skating has slowed considerably, which leads to bad decision making and poor play. Probably not a good signing now.....though I wish Holl all the best.

Wel considering Anaheim isn’t the hottest destination right now they need to overpay to keep players. Much like CBJ did with Severson, adding the 8th year to his extension should be more than enough reason to stay in Anaheim

I like the Pesce idea -- a lot -- but I don't think that's close to getting him. We'd probably have to offer Olen Zellweger instead of Hinds and the Colorado 2023 second instead of the 2024 second. But I'd be okay with that.

Bruins will be able to buy Reilly out cheaply.

Thanks for trying out our team!

I think there are other options to answer the question at RHD that have less of a chance to be an anchor towards the end of that deal.

Zellweger is probably the last LHD rookie of note to hit the NHL after LaCombe who likely plays this season and Mintyukov. Our GM has constantly talked about making sure the kids are physically ready for the grind of 82 NHL games and what their bodies need to be like to survive.

I also believe Fowler Drysdale as a pairing gets caved it. Two puck moving D with no grit, it will be turnover city.

Silf is not a 2nd line player anymore, I would put Strome or Jones at 2RW. Lundy is really bad as a winger, leave him at C, and I would leave Jones in the lineup on 3rd line at least. McTavish also shouldn't be down on 4.

Your analysis in the description is spot on, everything you said there was right, I would personally take things in a different direction though.
