St Louis isn't in a position to trade all that for a pending UFA. Hanafin would need to come with an extension. BUT St Louis already have 4 d man signed to big contracts, long term. I don't see the fit. Hanfin will fetch quite a bit on the trade market, so I don't think your valuation is far off. Just the wrong team.

I see the fit for that Colorado trade though. I assume they would want 50% retention. They will add a 3rd round pick.

LA is a potential landing spot for Vladar. So are Ottawa, Buffalo, Carolina. 3rd round pick seems reasonable.

There are several UFA backups who would sign a minimum with better numbers.

I would venture to guess Hanifin/Miller/Chabot are the top targets for the Blues or another defenseman. We have the forward prospect depth and picks to support adding another larger Defenseman contract. It's not ideal and almost certainly by next offseason we would need to move Krug or Leddy, but regardless this is a deal I would do personally. I really like Neighbors game and I think the FO does too but a stable minute munching defenseman on the left side that is capable in all 3 zones is by far our biggest need at the moment.

I don't mind Backlund, although retention is a must...or else they should look elsewhere. At that price point, ROR is a better option with no assets being give up. Can we think about it and call back?
