I really hope that if Montreal lands PLD they do not have to pay him $9.5M per season. That would certainly mess up their cap structure.

At this point Gustafsson and Heinola are just “organizational guys”, guys that the Hawks have an abundance of.

So this seems more about flipping Johnson for Schmidt which considering the Hawks have a backlog on the backend, especially if they want to break in young d-men like Vlasic, Philips, Regula etc. then this deal makes no sense from Chicago’s perspective. As a rebuilding team they would definitely have no interest in adding a 2nd round pick, or any pick for that matter.

Hawks obviously decline. Schmidt takes more than Heinola and Gustafson just to dump w/ nothing going back to the Jets.

Flyers decline. Wheeler and Pionk don't fit the time line of a rebuild and the return to take on wheeler isn't enough especially with Tippett taking a step forward this year and being viewed as one of the more promising young player in the org.
