There is no fair trade for Connor McDavid. Edmonton loses, regardless of return.

If McDavid demanded a trade, he would dictate where he's going. His full NMC gives him complete control. Oiler fans would be so gutted of that happened. Like it would be the worst ever blow to them. Why? Because you are going to get less than half of what you'd want.

This is the first thing you've said that I fully agree with

Edmonton wouldn't have much say in it. If McDavid wants out, you are getting bent over. His NMC will drive the price down so so much.

We’ve been down this road before and management screwed it up bad.

The player doesn’t have control. If the contract is signed and the player wants out a ten team negotiation starts.
If the player only wants to go to one team then the answer is simply no…..We’re not trading you then.

Eric Lindros trade made the Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup Champions & the Flyers never really recovered.

Oilers management simply doesn’t trade McDavid to one team, player picks ten teams.

If McDavid wants out, yeah I guess Oilers could shop him. But if McDavid doesn't get traded (the most likely scenario), he can always retire.

Then he holds out and that gets uglier and uglier and hurts your return more and more. Pray it never comes to it, because there is no scenario where the Oilers come out happy if McDavid wants out. You maximize what you can get because it won't be enough.

They can't shop a guy who has a NMC, he decides where he wants to go and then that team offers something. It would be a devastating turn of events for the Oilers.

So be it, Oilers did this with Proger and screwed themselves, Quebec did it and got fair value.
If McDavid sits out he won’t sit for long.

All depends on how many destinations he approves.

It likely doesn't really matter, you are losing any trade involving McDavid. If he only has 2 or 3 teams it's still going to be a bad return.
