Short but long term fixes

Created by: CJ1909
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2023
Published: Jun. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
+ Fabs for RyJo fills the immediate need of a stronger and more offensive 2C and on a shorter-term contract. Fabs can be put on LTIR, which opens massive space for NSH if they want it.
+ Getting another '23 1st to take on Murray seems like a move that should be made in this deep draft
+ Getting another '23 1st from PIT while taking on Granlund to place 3C for 2 years @5M and Carter to play 4th line minutes for a year while giving up a 20 goal scorer in Kubs (2nd rd pick equivalent) is a good fit for both teams. Added another 2nd from DET for Chariot to help offset the dump of Ruuta. Opens $3.625M for PIT with nothing hitting next year as a buy-out for Granlund would and PIT is in win-now mode.
+ Pesce can anchor RHD with Edv for the next half decade, love this approach.
+ Adding another '23 2nd by taking on Bailey is a nice use of cap space and allows for another move
+ TK is a better fit for the Wings than the Cat I believe and his cap hit is only $5.5M while the Wings transition their roster to a "young core" like GMSY talked about.
+ Young core becomes: Larkin, TK, Ray, Mo, Walman, Raz, Pesce, Edv, Kasper, Cossa
+ Sods/Kasper/Mazur are line 1 in GR this year and line 3/4 in DET year after

2024-25 Next Offseason available cap: $17.5625M cap opening
+ 5M Bailey
+ 4.75M Perron
+ 4.6875M Murray
+ 3.125 Carter

2024-25 Increases for new contract: $20M additions
+ 8M Sieder (8.9 vs 0.9) for 8 yrs
+ 5M Raymond (6 vs 1) for 3/4 bridge deal
+ 2M Pesce (6 vs4) for 6 yrs
+ 2M Raz (3.5 vs 1.5) for 6 yrs
+ 3M Raymond (4 vs 1) for 3/4 bridge deal

2024-25 ~20M Still roughly open for next year
+ bottom 2 D can be filled with current prospects

8M RyJo and 5M Granlund end when TK needs extension

Care to explain? To me, this is a playoff bubble team with many assets the Wings can sell if they missed the playoffs.

Not enough value for Pesce. Besides, if he is signing that contract, he is staying with the Canes.

Zadina is just another bottom 6 winger at this point. He still has upside and maybe he can turn his career around outside of Detroit, but he doesn’t do anything to really even separate himself from Martinook. The picks are nice, but if the Canes were to move Pesce, they would be looking for a roster upgrade more than futures. And just a quick glance at Detroit’s pipeline, it doesn’t look like Detroit has the pieces or the willingness to move specific pieces that the Canes would want if they move Pesce.

Toronto already has near 15 million in cap. They don’t need to spend a 1st to rid themselves of an expiring contract.

They are not just spending a first, they are moving down 15 spots only, similar to Mrazek deal, but Mrazek was still at least serviceable.

Love the Pittsburgh Deal. Not sure if Carter would accept the trade though.

They had no cap space last year and they had an idiot for a GM.
