You think Guentzel is less valuable than Girard?

Not at all. But Girard is cost controlled for 4 more years. Guentzel only has a year left. I added to the trade but what would it actually take?

Problem is that Girard hasn’t been particularly good for about two years now and is 3rd pair quality whereas Guentzel is a bonafide 1st line winger.
Girard likely has zero value for the Penguins whereas Guentzel’s value to the Pens is huge.

CHI might consider that trade if there is someone they really want and don't think will be available at 35th overall. Then again, they might just do it anyway, the value isn't bad at all and there has been talk about CHI consolidating picks.

Pens would decline, the first is nice but not enough for how much worse they would get adding negative value pieces like Girard and Olausson.

I don't see it as a fit for the Avs at all. Moving a cost controlled top 4 dman for a pending ufa winger looking for a pay day is not good business.
